AMT 1/25 2010 Dodge Challenger?

Did you buy it yet? If not GOOD. Avoid anything AMT like the bubonic plague unless it's the 57 corvette, 71 duster, 71 charger, or 59 belvedere and go for the Revell one. You won't be dissapointed with the revell one trust me on this,

That's not a very supportive statement,  I have had POS's from Revell also not to mention MPC and Monogram in the past. Matter of fact I have gotten a Harrier where the nose cone on one half of the fuselage was incompletely molded from Testors. I do agree you should get the best one you can for quality and detail when you can. Sometimes quality slips but that's no reason to tell folks that everything this company or that makes is total crud. ww2psycho, look at it as a challenge, learn from the experience and you will be a better builder for it. Get used to not having an ideal kit, additional patience, finding out how to overcome a problem part..........after tackling enough of them, it doesn't matter who makes it 'cause you can kick it's butt ! Sometimes the best kits are the nasty ones cause it's the only one there is.

I would normally agree with you, but in the case of this particular kit, the Revell Challenger kit is much more detailed than the AMT kit. The AMT kit is a curbside, where the Revell kit has an engine in the bay for example.  Normally, I don't mind curbside kits, but the AMT kit is not a cheap kit, so for about the same price Revell gives you a better bang for the buck.

The AMT 2010 Challenger R/T kit is an unassembled promo kit that does build into a decent looking Challenger.  It has no engine and the wheels are supported with wire axles.  Some aspects about this model that I didn't like were the headlights have a mounting tab that is quite visible when installed, so I just painted them to hide the tab.  The seats are made of a vinyl like material and the chassis is joined to the body with four visible screws on the chassis.  The good news is the decal sheet has extra decals that I used on the Revell Challenger SRT that I built afterwards.

Cool, thanks guys! I guess I could get both and build the AMT one for me and the Revell for my friend. Like I said, I've never built a car (I can count the number of times I've looked at car models on one hand!)

I'm sorry but as someone who has been building almost exclusively cars since the age of 13 I can honestly say that except fro the few I mentioned, AMT/MPC cars have been almost completely unbuiladable. There was a short spurt in the mid 90's to early 2000's where they released some offerings like the 71 Charger that put Revell to shame but otherwise every single one of the 70+ AMT kits I have purchased, started, or was able to finish without shelving or selling was poorly molded, had terrible fit problems (case in point the 70 Coronet Superbee which I could not finish due to the chassis does not fit inside the body), poor decals (2009 Corvette comes to mind where they all irreparibly shattered). I am fully aware that all kits are prone to problems but some companies are just far more problematic as a whole and if I can help someone avoid a major headache I will.

"un-buildable" is a strong statement that applied to very few kits. Sometimes kits require a little inginuity to assemble and at worst some kit bashing. I've been building model kits since the early 70's and don't think I've ever run across an "un-buildable" kit.

I'm building an MPC Jeep CJ-5 right now and it's going together just fine.

I love this car. For my part, I stay away from AMT. From what I've seen, they rarely have detailed engines. But it's just me. I've modified a 2009 Challenger into a convertible 2009 Cuda. That was fun..... especially cloning the shaker

I don't normally listen to anyone else when I want to buy a particular model. If there are two available from different manufacturers I go to a hobbyshop and ask to see both kits in the boxes. I then make the decision to buy one and it's down to me. I don't like hearing that a manufacturer is rubbish and the other  is good, having made thousands of kits over 50 years they all make mistakes even the most expensive, and some of the cheapest are the best. As I have recently retired I'm careful now with the pennies. I recently bought a number of 1/72 scale plane kits at £3.99 each from Russia, Poland, and Czech Republic they don't have hundreds of parts but the detail is superb! Car kits are becoming far too expensive and we don't get many American kits in the UK so they are not cheap. Tamiya we get here by the truckload and are expensive, but the quality is superb. There I've just fallen into the same trap by saying Tamiya is good on quality, but that's only the ones I've bought and built.

I dont try too picks sides I have had both good and bad kits some were more memoraible then others.

Never bought a Tamiya kit but plan too in the future as a matter of fact I see a few manufacturers who put out the same car kit and I think I might start there.

Currently I am patiently waiting too continue the build of Revells Lamborghini Countach....christmas is coming and just busy...Tamiya also puts out a Countach kit as does another kit company.

I think thats where I'm going too start....
