Any F1 enthusiast around here???
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 15, 2004 12:19 AM
I'm kind of a F1 (formula 1) enthusiast. I can't wait till march 7......Australia. The first race of this season. I was wandering.....who do you think will be the 2004 world champ. My preferences goes for Kimi Raikonnen or Juan Pablo Montoya. Let me know what yours opinions are.

Hey, John! I don't think i'm an F1 enthusiast (because i can never catch to races on the television since weekends is family time), but i'm definetly a fan! I think I'd like to see JP Montoya on the top spot (I hope williams/bmw has a better car than ferrari this year... Though, while we're at it, i'd like to see Damon Hill back driving for jordan... Smile [:)])

Hi Spawney and welcome to the forums. i am an F1 fan and so is the missus. don't know who will be the champ this year but hopefully it won't be "the shoemaker". probably Montoya has a better chance than most but i don't want to do a "Murrey walker" on him and jinx his chances LoL. i have followed F1 since i was a kid and remember the likes of the late great James Hunt, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nikki Lauda to name but a few. who do you think was the greatest F1 driver of all time? its hard (probably imposable) to choose one so for me it is a three way tie between nuvolari, fangio and moss. all great drivers i am sure you'll agree. do you build F1 cars?. i would love to do some but with all the aircraft kits that i have starting another series of models, especially one that is updated every year, isn't an option just yet.
later and best regards.
Greg

The best F1 driver of all time ???? I don't know...it's a tought question since F1 have seen many good drivers.....but one of the driver that I admire the most is certainly Ayrton Senna.

Unfortunately, i've been an F1 fan for only 5 or 6 years and since i'm only 24, i d'ont know that much about the "old days" of F1. But I try to read as many F1 driver biography or gather as much info on the subject as I can (pictures, videos, books......)It help me a lot to learn about the past champions, cars, races.....

I've only built one F1 model and it was an old ( well, not that old) Ferrari that Niki Lauda drove for the 1976 Monaco Grand Prix. It was a Ferari 312 T2. It was a gift that my dad gave me for one of my birthday. It was my tenth I think and we build it together. But I plan to build some of the new one, like the F2001 or the 2001 Williams......

Oh yeah, I do like Formula 1. I've been to a couple of the races here in Indy and plan on going again this year. My choices for top driver(s) this year would be Juan Montoya or Michael Schumacher (after all, he is the reigning champion).

Yeah, it's very hard to bet against Shumacher in his Ferrari - he's been consistently competetive and hard to beat for many years - even with all the ongoing legislation of rule changes meant to slow the cars!! Hasn't worked very well, has it? They lap faster than ever, year after year - narrower tires, grooved tires, no traction control, no active suspension, lessened downforce etc etc etc.......they still go faster and faster.
Kimi came close last year, Juan Pablo looked pretty good throughout the year. Ralf did pretty well - it'll be good to go to Albert Park to see the race. You can hear the cars from miles away - I'm not kidding. It's a nice track. Part of the track is actually public road that's closed for the race - bloody smooth as a billiard table.
Take care

Cheers, LeeTree

McLaren is my team, so unless its a McLaren driver on top its not a good year as far as I'm concerned! Kimi for champ, Coulthard 2nd, rest - who cares!

Just got the April FSM and from the 2004 new kit releases report it looks to be a barren time for any 1/20th F1 model fan, although its not a complete list by any means. Back to 43rd I think as it sems the dirth of current car kits is slowly changing.

I enjoyed seeing Jeff Gordon and Juan Montoya switch cars last year for a few laps at IMS. I would bet Juan had a lump in his throat when Gordon rode the brakes too hard and put the car into the grass.... Big Smile [:D]

I reckon the smart money has to be on a three horse race between Schumacher, Montoya, and Raikonnen. Personally I'd like to see Jenson Button do well this year. He was robbed of a couple of 2nd places last year, possibly even a win, and lead races a few times in a definitely 2nd string car. Definitely the best of the rest after the Ferraris, Williams and McLarens

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)
