Pete 359 build
Posted by philo426 on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 12:42 AM

Next project;;Revell Peterbuilt 359.Wow!It sure is a lot easier than the old AMT Big Rigs I made in the '70s!The frame and axle mounts are one piece and in perfect alignment,and the parts have more positive locating points.I suspect that the hardest part of this build will be the paint job!I plan on painting like tghe old Kenworth on the '70s TV series Movin' On!

I have fond memories from my youth when I built a few trucks-n-trailers. Even had an itch lately to try one again.

SO, I shall watch your efforts eagerly.Eats

Okay;

 You're doing alright so far . Now one piddling point . I drove with my son to Laredo last week .He has a very clean dark gunmetal colored Mack with sleeper and all the goodies . One thing about " Super-Dog " is the truck tire treads .

 Surprisingly no crosstreads on the steering tires but plenty on the drivers and trailer . All pretty smooth and dull with plenty of tread showing . Dull the tread side down if you can . Good job otherwise , though , I like the white stripes and Green paint ! T.B.

Nice to see that I still have a pretty steady hand.Instead of BMF,I decided to freehand paint the window frames with good old Testors silver.Not bad!

What I did .

    You can try this next time . I took chrome foil and covered the whole thing . This is what you do . Do this and then trim around the Big edges and make sure your foil is down and tight in the instruments . Now put the white paint in there . Just a light coat .The paint will drift away from the top edges of any detail in the instruments .

      Then lightly take a cotton swab and rub the detail cleaner . Let dry . That way you are free to paint the pointers and dial readings . Don't forget to use magnifiers for doing this so you can see the detail better .

 You will then have a killer dash . After all you are talking about the  "Truckers Cadillac", a Peterbilt !     T.B.
