JR Cash's 1:1 "Kit Bashing" Caddy
Posted by Digital_Cowboy on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 10:21 AM

Does anyone know if any company has made a kit of JR Cash's 1:1 "Kit Bashing" Caddy?  Or would one end up having to do as what the person in the song did and Kit Bash it?

You mean that  " ......one piece at a time ......" song? OMG that would be an AWESOME model idea. Sounds like maybe it's time for the Johnny Cash One-Piece-At-A-Time kitbashed / scratchbuilt Caddy Group Build!! Huh .... whatya all think?

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

Fly It,

Yep, that's the one that I mean.  I know that someone had built a 1:1 of it as JR & June took it on tour with them.  I never got to see, but my parents did.  And it's in the video of the song.

Just think of all the practice of filling and filing seams. . .And hopefully it wouldn't take anywhere near as long to build a kit of it as it did the guy in the song. Wink

Yea but you couldn't  possibly smuggle all the parts out of the factory in your lunch pail..... they wouldn't fit.

Now smuggling them out of a hobby store in your lunch pail.........

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

"The little things I could in big lunchbox like nuts and bolts and all four shocks, the big stuff I snuck out in my buddy's mobile home."

     Like GM wouldn't notice:

a) a mobile home parked out in the parking lot

b) or two guys carrying car parts out to it. . .Wink

Tim,

     Sorry about that.

Here's a "scary thought."  How BIG is his lunchbox if he can get all four shocks in it, or even just one at a time.

You could hide one in a sub sandwich.

just don't eat it at work or you lose your camoflauge !!!

Tim,

I presume that you are referring to a shock, right?  And please before anyone asks, I'd like to remind y'all that I do not own or drive a car, so I know very little about the parts of a car.  Thank you.

Although, can you see the logistics of trying to sneak a car (any car) out of a plant one piece at a time?  Certain parts, i.e. the nuts and bolts I'm sure aren't monitored as closely as say an engine or all four shocks. Wink

I guess one of the "fun" aspects of such a build would be to first figure out just how many years/decades that Caddy spans.  We know that he started out in '49 and the transmission is a '53 and the engine turns out to be a '73.

So at the very least, it spans '49 to '73.  It'd be interesting to know if there were any parts on it after '73.

It'd also be interesting figuring out IF there are kits of the same model (I presume that all the pieces came from the same model Caddy) of the same scale to make building it that much easier.
