Airfix 1/12 1930 4.5L Bentley Blower.... Is it really THAT rare?
Hi folks,
New guy here. One of the kits I'd love to do is the Airfix 4.5L Bentley Blower. I'm cruising around on eBay to get an idea as to the price of this kit, and I'm floored to see these prices.
We're talking anywhere from $99 all the way to $160. Is this kit THAT rare or contain such complex detailing that it commands these kinds of prices, or are these guys smokin' something? I mean, I get it... there can be kits out there with super high details that can command that kind of money, but seeing the opened Bentley kits online, they don't seem THAT remarkable (maybe I'm missing something). Is it the scale that pushes the price skyward? That could be it. For that much money, though, the kit better contain something like a lock of W.O. Bentley's hair or a share of Bentley stock.
I don't consider something "rare" if there are 8 being listed at the same time. Italeri's Ferrari 250 GT California would be a "rare" kit as they don't come up very often. For this kind of money, I could buy a Franklin Mint copy and be done with it... but the fun is in building it, right? I've got no problems shelling out serious bucks for a kit, I just want to be sure I'm not being "taken".
Has anyone built this kit, and if so, what was your impression?
Thanks for your time ................. Matt
