Getting a red stripe..
Posted by mrmartin75 on Friday, July 12, 2013 6:58 PM

Ok, so my nephew wants my help to paint his Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR model. However he wants a custom paint job different than on the box. he wants the car all gloss black with an 1/4" stripe down the middle of Red. i was going to use the decals that come with the kit, but he used Testors MM Guards Red enamel, and the decal is more "orangish" compared the Guards Red. so...

do i paint the entire car guards red, then tape off a stripe, then paint the whole car black?

or do i paint the car black, mask up for a red stripe after?

i'm open to any and all ideas!

thanks in advance!

The quick answer is to prime with white, paint the red, mask, then shoot the black. Red covers white much easier with fewer coats, and the white undercoat will brighten the red up.
