Meyers Manx 3

I call it 3 because this is my third build of this kit.......................

I did a few mods and used some of the decals from the kit.

Nice !

I am tempted but not yet purchased a copy of the Manx kit from Hobby Lobby.

I have seen the "Elvis" version and would like to know if there is any difference between the kit parts and those of the ?standard? kit.

Would you happen to know?

Thanks.

Thanks for the 'Nice'.  I haven't seen the Elvis kit as it takes a while for stuff to get to the UK. I have seen one advertised on one of the US sites showing the yellow body shell, but other than that I've not physically seen one.

I have got a fourth one to build very much like this..................

I've got the wheels from a Ferrari F1 kit and I'm looking around some more bits!

Seems that kit can be a lot of  fun due to so many possibilities.

Now I'm even more tempted. Stick out tongue

It's good you are at least tempted. Yes there are a miriad of possiblities. I went to a VW show here in the UK last year and there were Subaru flat 4 watercooled engines being used in classic Vw's. But on a Manx where would you put the radiators?

Perhaps in sidepods in front of the rear wheels, there I've answered my own question!

The problem is though they are not proper VW's.

water cooled engines being used in classic Vw's?

A shortage of inexpensive air cooled engines?

As the VW was designed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, Porsche engines would seem appropriate.

Unfortunately,  rebuilt Porsche engines on ebay are outrageously expensive; upwards of $10,000 each.Bang Head

Good thing 1/25 scale plastic model Manx vehicles are cheaper to work on.Wink

Yes Sprue-ce Goose, we had a beetle oursecond I think when VW suggested a watercooled car called the Golf! We said watercooled that's a disgrace going away from the manufacturing of the beetle that had sold millions and it's subsequent air-cooled derivatives, Karmann Ghia, Notchback, Fastback, Vans Campers and pick-ups. And of course all of the Porsches from the 356 through to the 911, but even now they are water-cooled.

A VW with a water-cooled engine will never sell we said and how wrong we were!

But we in the UK like yourselves in the USA have numerous VW Air-Cooled shows each year and we still love them!

I've not yet noticed any VW Air-Cooled theme car shows in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Of course, I haven't specifically looked for owner clubs.
Closest thing I saw recently was a pair of early 1960s era Chevrolet air cooled Corvairs.
VW owners may not be aware of some of the smaller shows that occur each summer.Hmm

Yes Chevy Corsairs are good, some of the buggy owners wanting extra power will pop a corvair 6 in the back.
