I've been thinking about kit bashing a mongram '59 cadillac kit with the AMT ecto 1 kit to get a little more detail put into the build . has anybody tried this? i'm just wondering how much hacking is going to be involved to add the engine bay and some of the interior components.

Add some scallops or flames, whitewall bogie wheels, chrome spear down the side, chop the turret....fuzzy dice!!!

I like that............been quite a while since I added scallops and flames to a vehicle.or chromed exhausts.Big Smile
Gonna hafta cut down the barrel as well........otherwise I'll never be able to fit the streamlined bubble canopies for the driver and radio operator.........Surprise Maybe a command tankHmm
Fuzzy dice? Always !! !Wink

The AMT ecto-1a isn't too bad of a kit. some of the details are off, but it's easy to build and looks ok. It's curbside and all the equipment is molded in. I was tempted to use the front grille from the Monogram 59 cadillac, since that has clear headlights rather than the molded chrome ones. In fact you could probably pull the engine from it too.

the new release of it says on the box that it can be built as Ecto 1 or Ecto 1A, but in reality, it's just Ecto-1A with a few extra decals for Ecto-1. the interior and roof-rack are not correct for Ecto-1. I'm currently trying to correct it.

my  ecto-1a:

Thanks for that heads up about the kit as I just recently purchased it at Hobby Lobby.

I never realized just how huge the actual Caddy was until I compared the kit body to my 1/25 Panther medium tank.

Almost exactly the same length.Surprise........probably the same when I attach the tail fins ( to the caddy- not the Panther......).Whistling.

I had no idea this kit existed! i think I'll order one today. I loved this car when I was a kid. The scratch build possibilities are making me pretty excited about this.

Just got done with this kit and was kind of irked about not being able to make an Ecto-1. It did build up fairly well, though.

I built the Ecto-1 by Polar Lights in the above link. That is a nice kit. I have the AMT Ecto-1A in the stash. Can't speak on it yet,but the bodies are supposed to be damn near interchangeable.

I'm looking at AMT's Ecto 1-A kit as my next build and was wondering if anyone had tackled this before. Words of wisdom? Pictures? Anyone built this before?
