Can this kit be used for anything?
Posted by Eagle90 on Thursday, November 21, 2013 7:10 PM

I'm hoping the auto/truck community here can give me a hand.  I came across this kit and after getting it home, I noticed it had no instructions and no tires!  I couldn't do a real good inventory of parts but there is a lot there.  I'm not big with vehicles so I was wondering if this kit can be used or is it just plastic taking up space?  Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

The kit is an AMT/ERTL, 1/25, GMC General (#6659)

No idea on the instructions, maybe put out a call for anyone else who has the kit.

For the tires, you can find some tire sets on eBay.

If it is kit number 5001601 try this site for the instructions

public.fotki.com/.../gmc_general01.html

I have a stack of tires however do not know which are 1/24 and which are 1/25th. Also being in Australia the postage is more then the cost of buying them from eBay, but if you get desperate let me know and we can see what the mailing cost would be.

LATER: Just noticed that the web site does not have how to construct the engine. So if you cannot find the full instructions maybe something like this page might help.

What modelling subject are you 'in to'? if aircraft, maybe  you can make a trailer for it to haul some wings or something.

If building for myself, I'd make it a mobile flag truck from Knight Rider.

Hey Les, I edited the post to add the kit #.  Sorry, my bad.  It is pretty darn close, but there is more sprues with this kit.  There is chrome sprues too.  It's a good start!  Thanks so much for the help!  I saw some tires on evil bay.  Wow!  Couldn't believe the price for 10 of them!  Anyway, I probably won't build it.  No desire to do a truck.  My friend at work bought it at an auction for $3 for me because he knew I liked models.

Thanks for the help mate!

Now you're thinking!  I like that idea!  But no trailer with the kit, just the truck, but having KIT drop out the back of a trailer would rock!

Eagle: try here (http://www.jimnohio.com/trucks.html) for trailers.  I buy from him and he's top-notch.  Trailers start at $25USD, everything from 27'-48' in all types (van/dump/reefer/tanker.).  He also has an AMT General kit for $45, but it's an earlier release (70s?)

Pryman!  WOW!  I love that site!  I'm not big on auto/trucks, but dude!  He has it all.  Even airplanes and armor!  And the prices are GREAT!  I doubt seriously I will build this, but I will be visiting this place.  Thanks so much for the link!

Eagle 90, If your into aircraft, here's an idea for you. How about a "recovered from the bottom of a lake" WWII fighter strapped down to a flatbed. The Tractor wouldn't be the focus so it could be an old worn one. No need to scrap the kit. Hope that this stirs your thoughts. Good luck.

P.S. Someone else could help with the Tractor/Flatbed combo.
