Thanks!

John, I have not yet built mine, but I am planning on using Tamiya's prescribed paints.

I have done a 43rd in a dark blue, think it was TS54 or something like that - sorry, this is from memory, TS89 was not yet available. Looks good in the scale and in 43rd, the decals really liven up the paint.

Likewise, for the yellow I'd stick to their prescribed yellow - whether it's TS16 or TS47, since it will most likely match the decal sheet for other yellow bits. Unless, of course you plan to do all the yellow yourself.

Will look at some other opinions and build and come back to you later.

John, most guys I've seen have used either the prescribed paints (some picked TS16 for yellow instead) or the Zero range of paints for the RB's...

Yeah that's the same I've found as well. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to decant. Thanks for your help.

Good luck with the build. This one looks like a chore to complete.....

Go for it! Keep us updated along the way... Yes, sounds like quite a bit of "sink holes" to be smoothed.

One tip I picked up, is to mask out the Bull's head when painting the yellow sections. Otherwise there's a bit of bleeding (at the lack of a better word) and the head is apparently slightly lighter than the body once the decal is applied. I can't say, however, that it's going to be really noticeable, but if you feel like it - it's something to think about, at least.

So I couldn't locate any of the TS-89 pearl blue.  Looks like it was a limited run color most of the sites say it was discontinued.  I am going to try to mix my own color match using ALCLADII Candy Colbalt Blue and Candy Indigo Blue with the Silver base.  We will see how it turns out.

Need to figure out the yellow.

Good thing for me is I bought 2 TS89's! No TS47 (of 16) either? Why not go for TS51 or 54? Or the Zero colours, if they can ship to you. I love their stuff, but they no longer ship to this side of the world.

That blue is so different on each shot that it's usually "up to the eye of the beholder". I've seen a shot where it literally shows a range of from very dark blue to quite light, same photo, just as the light catches the same part differently. (Almost as confusing as the F2007/F2008 red as a topic!)

Good luck!

I saw the Zero colors but I do not think they are imported to the States.  I ended up finding some TS-47 Yellow on Amazon, so I am waiting for that to come in.

Also decided to Carbon Fiber everything, so I picked up a few sheets of CF decales.

Over the weekend I got most of the major sub assemblies primed with Mr. Surfacer 1500.  Need to clean up a few seams and sand it smooth while I wait for the paint to come in.

HAHA I guess this thread will become a mini build log.  I'll post pics of the primed parts later.

Thanks!

John

Hey John, why not join the Auto GB?! Would love to see another F1 progress there... How was the putty-work - or were there not too much holes to be filled and smoothed? I know the guys complained about this on the Tamiya F60 a LOT... TBH, mine is still in plastic wrapping... somehow!

Injection holes weren't too bad.  Most of them were on the back side of the wings, which I have decided to use CF decales instead of paint, so a simple putty and sand worked for me.

Good idea about the group build.  Looks like it's pretty open, just a massive build log for 2014, so I think I will head over there and sign up and join the fun.

HAHA this is my first auto in years.  Ive mostly been working on military aircraft and vehicles.

Thank!

John
