Need a New(er) Truck!
Posted by Caveman on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 9:25 PM

Hey auto builders!

It has been a while since building an automobile kit.  I usually build military stuff and haven't touched a car in 15 years or so.  I am currently building a small diorama and need a pick-up in either 24 or 25 scale.  The problem is......I can't seem to find a kit any newer than the 2000 model year.  I would prefer it to be a North American make but at this point I am open to anything.  Can any one suggest a newer vintage pick-up kit?

Thanks

Tim

A nice looking kit for certain, however it seems rather pricey, or am I that far out of touch?

In Australia that price is not too bad!! But found a few others (although not sure what you mean by vintage pick-up kit)

Those Dodges are late '90's era vehicles.  I'm still thinking of getting one of those Dakotas and doing a replica of my wife's 98 Dakota R/T.

But yeah, I suspect the price on that Ford reflects the licensing bribe the 1:1 manufacturers demand these days and paying for the new tooling.

That Ford looks awesome but I'm w/ Caveman... I just have a problem paying that for a 1/24 kit.  However the tooling & licensing has to cost a fortune for something that new.  Tamiya must have paid a huge sum to Renault & Redbull for their RB6 Formula 1 car as well.  Its only 1/20 scale and retail is $105.  That's the cost for new stuff being licensed I suppose.

As far as your conundrum, here is the newest things you'll find by each of the major 3 (Ford Dodge Chevy) other than that new Ford.  Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the input guys.  I can't be the only one in this predicament.  I can kitbash aircraft to no end but do not feel good about modding trucks.  Oh well, have to change my plans a bit I guess.

Meng is doing it's first 1/25 scale of Ford's new truck (rather than their usual 1/35). and Revell is going to release a F150 SVT next quarter
