Fire Trucks
Posted by jimz66 on Sunday, February 29, 2004 5:05 PM
Why is there such a shortage of Fire Truck model kits? I only know of the three from Ertl, one from Revell Germany, a few kits from Italeri, and a long out of buisness company (at least I think they are out of buisness) that used to make resin parts and conversion details for regular as well as Fire Trucks.

So what gives. These guys save our lives and they are not represented in plastic only Die Cast. Which in my opinion is besides the point. It dosen't even matter. Why Bother? I would rather have the satisfaction of putting them together. Banged Head [banghead]My 2 cents [2c]

I know Revell-Germany has/had more than one Fire-engine kit out.

I think the target audience for kits like is too limited to support large or wide releases of many Kits.
Also take into account that the Fire-engines vary between countries and even towns, thus their appeal is most likely limited to the locality where they are used.

Thus the european Fire-engines released by Revell-Germany might not appeal to US audiences. Even though it was fun adding the lights and supplied sound-system in.

I think there were more than the 2 listed above, the Unimog Kit was also supplied with the light/sound kit, build that kit MANY MANY years ago. At that time Revell re-issued a LOT of Kits with lights and sounds Police Cars, F-15, etc.

I feel your pain as do several others I know. AMT has 3 kits of some older style Mack and American Lafrance style trucks. Other than that it's just resin or scratchbuilding for an American looking truck. I have a couple of sites that offer those if want to look into that route. Since I am a firefighter I would love to build some trucks, but since my scratchbuilding abilities are not that great yet it's been a no go. The AMT kits are usually on ebay but I have seen them in shops for about $35 apiece.
