Massachusetts State Police blue paint
Posted by pittsfieldpete on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 2:02 PM
Hello: I plan to build a 1/24 scale Massachusetts State Police car using Lindberg's "generic" Dodge Charger police car kit & aftermarket decals. Can anyone tell me if any model paint manufacturer makes the specific two-tone blue colors used on the cars here in my home state? If so, please let me know who manufactures it as well as the paint color numbers if available. I'd prefer not to have to mix paints to get the colors I'll need, but I will if in-the-bottle colors aren't available. Also, any advice to assist me in building a really good replica would be greatly appreciated. I have decals as I said, but I'd like to see what else is available. I did some searching on the web but I haven't had much luck. Thanks!

You should check over on the Scale Auto forums, it was talked about there.  I believe the darker blue is "French blue."

Call the State Police and ask to speak to their "Public Affairs Officer". He/she should be able to tell you who to talk to regarding the colors used on their cars. Very often these colors are "corporate colors", that is colors the Manufacturers will apply for fleet or volume purchasers, e.g. "Mary Kay pink".

I have built several MSP cruisers & found that Testors Model Master Dark sea blue & Intermediate blue are very close matches to the colors used.
