Tip:  When working with a really "hot " Solvent, I don't brush it on.  I apply it with an eyedropper so I don't touch the decal, and let it air dry.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. It is a big decal: 2"x2" so I guess it couldn't flatten out when drying although it started out flat. I should have probably cut it into three strips and applied one at a time. The way it is messed up I think I may try to strip it and try something else.

Agree with above. Let it dry properly, then carefully make small cuts aling some creases and flatten with a bit of solvaset. Not familiar with solvaset myself, I use Micro Sol, whihc tends to wrinkle decals and then it smooths out upon drying.Maybe with the solution under it, plus your "keeping it wet", it simply has to dry for longer? I usually just place decal and go over it with Sol and leave it alone. Once it gets wrinkled, I do not touch it at all.

BTW, missisippivol, just for fun. I've run into one much stronger than anything this will throw at it! Not meant for notmal decals and it's downright scary to use. Tameo solution for tyre decals. I breathe deeply every time before I use it, it really melts decals very quickly. Plenty of first-hand experience...

I don't know of anything stronger than Solvaset. One tip I have is to not put Solvaset under the decal. It is only after the decal is placed that you would use it; and it's really all you should need. You could take a sharp blade and slice along the wrinkles and then put some more solvent on it to see if it'll lay it back down. I hope it turns out ok, and I hope you'll share some pics of your build when you're done!

Problem with Monogram Baja Beast decal
Posted by Gern on Sunday, October 26, 2014 3:05 PM

Hi,

I'm decalling my Monogram Baja Beast and the decal for the wooden planks on the ramp has a lot of wrinkes in it. I laid it over solvaset with solvaset on top. It went down  well intially and I thought it would be no problem but next day it had lots of wrinkles. I tried keeping it wet with solvaset and pressing out the wrinkles but they seem set now.

any Ideas on how to handle this? Maybe an even stronger setting solution?

Thanks for your help.
