Good NASCAR sites?
Posted by roadkill_275 on Saturday, March 6, 2004 7:33 PM
Just bought the #8 Bud Chevy. I haven't built a car model in twenty years and I would like to know what the best sites are to get reference pics and detail shots. Also what colour is this car? I bought Testors MM Italian Red because it looked the closest.

I can see why you are asking for good pics. I tried all my normal means and can't come up with any detail pics of NASCARs, just publicity shots. I have a couple of buddies that are going to be working the race next weekend in Atlanta on the safety crews though and I can see what they might be abe to get some good shots of for you.

I've looked a few nascar kits and ushually turn away from them cause of the very glossy paint jobs they require and the amount of decals. I've pretty much got the decal thing down now but the good looking gloos paint job still kills me. Do want to pick up the Bill Elliot kits though while they stilll have them out before he fully retires.

try looking at your local bookstore for a book call Race fans reference book. I have two of them and they have pictures from the front to the back, then the bottom to the top. great reference book. about 19.00 dollars.

Thanks. I really should have stuck with a subject I'm familiar with. All kinda books on airplanes, a few on ships, but nothing on cars. This was the first kit I've ever seen with decals for a beer co. I've always been an Earnhardt fan, Sr and Jr. And i catch as many races as I can. BTW this is Revell kit #2160 and I got it at Hobby Lobby for 13.99 they also had Sterling Marlins #40 with Coors Lite markings.

Hey, roadkill_275,

I have that kit, too. I'm a huge Earnhardt fan, too. It's been a real pain finding any kind of detail shots of the interior, engine bay, cockpit, etc. "Stock Car Race Shop" from Motorbooks International has lots of good detail photos from several race teams. I can e-mail you some shots I took at Talledega last fall of a generic cut-away display car. Let me know if you'd like copies. If you manage to get any detail shots of the #8 Monte Carlo, I'd love to get copies.

Hey all,

I have built a few nascar kits, but i use general paint schemes. The generic interior and chasis colors are grey, and the drive shaft is usually white. However, the best shots i have seen latley arethe in car cams, they do offer alot, unfortunatly not every car has them.

I have found a great NASCAR forum, http://randyayersmodeling.com/modelingforum/index.php?sid=f6ef97360aa46931cfeb1651769cd452 , the people there are very knowlegable, and there are pics there to help you out.

Also, if yourlooking to spuce up your models, try this place, Modern Motorsports, http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/mm0/index.html , i have ordered from them, and the parts and service is awesome!!

Hope this helps a little!!

Hey Roadkill,

I just got lots of shots of the #8 Bud Monte Carlo. I took them at lobby of the Anheiser-Busch brewery. Not an operational car, just a demo model, but still lots of detail. Let me know if you want copies.
