Has anyone any advice as to how to attach 1:12 scale muffler springs? Glue and technique tips welcome.

Hi Simon,

I have put scratchbuilt muffler springs on a few of my kits, here is what I did. On a lot of older bikes that used muffler springs, they had a small U-shaped piece of rod welded to the pipe and the muffler to attach the spring to. I drilled two small holes in the pipe, and two in the muffler, about 2mm apart, bent 2 small pieces of wire into a U shape, and slipped them into the holes and fixed them with super glue. Then just attach either end of your spring to them. Just do that on the top and bottom for double springs. Hope this helps.

I would imagine that tiny scraps of guitar string would work well for exhaust joint springs.

Hi Mick

Thanks for that - do you have any particular CA product that you could recommend for the job?  Nothing I use, including epoxy resin, seems to hold the clips to the pipe.  Perhaps the problem is the scale - it does not permit enough glue to be used.  Simon

Hi Simon,

I use Zap-A-Gap with the green label. I drill the holes for the wire loops as deep as possible into the pipe and muffler as possible. With a smaller diameter wire put some glue down into the holes, and slide your U shaped loops in. If any glue squeezes out, quickly wipe it away. Then let it set up for 5-10 minutes just to be sure. It works for me. Good luck
