1. I paint most of my models with a spray can. the thing is you have to use the correct technique to get it to look ok. if it's cool, warm the spray can by standing it in warm water. the heat will increase the pressure in the can and help the solvents mix. then shake can very well to mix up the paint. you need a primer that is compatible with your paint. spray it on thinly rather than thick. if it's not thick enough, make another coat after it's flashed (30 minutes). spray in short horizontal strokes and don't start or stop if you're aiming at your model (it might splatter when it starts or stops). Don't be afraid to practice on other stuff.

2. i don't sweat the 1/24~1/25 difference for dioramas. the rule is 'if it looks right, it IS right'

3. there are heaps of specialty shops that sell various aftermarket model parts. search for what you need. i'd leave adding more detail until you get the basics down. you can get diorama parts from a lot of online sellers and ebay (eg www.scalemodelingbychris.com). the doll section 'half-scale' will also get you some garage parts.

1) You may wish to invest in an airbrush.  Folks with more skill than I can comment further.

2) 1/24 and 1/25 are nearly identical - you'll wants tools and such in either of those scales.  They can be mixed freely, though I'd avoid having two models of the same car in both scales next to one another.

3) Amazon and EBay have sets of tools and garage diorama pieces in 1/24 scale from Fujimi.  They're nicely detailed and easy to build though you'll need several different sets to completely furnish a garage.

New modeler looking for some advice.

Hello, I am new to the forums and I'm fairly new to modeling, well you could say I'm a novice modeler. I've done a few here and there as a kid. Now I am ready to go to the next level. I am a HUGE car fan. I am wanting to create a few garage dioramas. I have a few questions that I hope someone don't mind answering for me. Questions are listed below. Any and all replies are appreciated! Thank you in advance!

1. When painting model cars, what's the best way to do it? My last model I used a can of model car spray paint from hobby lobby and it came out terrible....

2. When building a diorama such as a car garage how do I know which scales for all the little detail pieces to use? My cars I have are 1/24 and 1/25 scale. What scale does the garage need to be? Tool boxes, tools, misc. Parts, etc....?

3. What's the best place to buy scale parts and pieces for model cars and garage dioramas?
