Modelers

About Surface Line saying get kits from resellers.

Not so fast there!

Currently there is an AMT 65 Pontiac that is in a Grand Slam version.

Says it contains Advanced Customizing parts.

Now 1965 is kind of near end of custom car peak but

you can't have everything.

Thanks!

Don

Thank you for the reply!

Their were custom upholstry packs.

I beleive those engines are all chromed so that's

part of a custom car.

Never noticed that before!

Even if you replace the painted engine with Parts Pack chromed one

that's part of the hood open at the car show scene.

Thanks

Surface Line

Thank you for your response!

I will respond to your points one at a time because

they are such good points.

The era was the Go-Go fifties and the early 60's Kennedy 'Sky's the limit'.

These kits were product's of 'We can do anything!' thinking.

Now today you can build your own Advanced Customizing kit

from a standard kit.

I will start a post on that, going beyond the customizing parts.

AMT also sold packs of customizing/modifying parts, not complete cars.  To me the best of those packs was the one with an Allison engine.  Those make great engines for unlimited power boat racers!

Like Bob said, in the 60's, nearly all AMT kits had customizing parts.  But like you are saying, there was a very small series of "Advanced Customizing" kits in about 1961-63.  These had such radical exrta parts that AMT even included a tube of filler putty.  (And it didn't work very well for this ten year old).  And you're right that these were curbside.   (back then, kids didn't call them "curbside", we called them "crummy, because the hood doesn't open"). On top of that, the Advanced Customizing kits didn't even have a race option in their 3 in 1 story.  You could build the car stock, custom or radical custom.

A few of those kits were re-released by AMT a few years ago.  But the real message is that there are no new kits being made in that style.  None new since 1963, I think.

If you want any now, you will need to find them from old kit sellers.

Sorry,
Rick

Bob

Thanks for the response!

You're unclear about what parts I want.

I want the Advanced Customizing parts.

If they are the same as customizing parts,

I didn't know that.

I do know the Styline is a 'curbside' kit (lacking detail like a promo model)

and includes putty and applicator.

In conclusion, just want more Advanced Customizing kits.

Thanks

Not sure if I'm following your post-if you're saying that the newer releases of old kits don't have some of the parts, then I'm off target-if that's the case, same advice-Google search to find the instructions of the latest re-release.

If you're looking for input on the old AMT kits in general-

Most (if not all) of the AMT kits are kits that were released in the 60's & 70's-I remember seeing most of them on the shelves of my LHS.

Usually they could be build two or three ways-stock/racing/custom versions-leaving over parts for future use.

I've found that the best way to get an idea of what is in the kit is to do a Google search-I used the following search criteria:  AMT 61 Ford Skyline

And found the following amongst the results:

http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/chevrolet/1961-1970/amt-61-ford-galaxie/61-ford-galaxie.html#media

Hope this helps=if not, sorry

Where are they?

They've been coming out with a lot of kits but

last one of these was '61 Ford Styline kit 4 or 5 years ago.

A kit with same parts in it with hints that it has them

in not acceptable to me.

Don't have time to figure that out.

Kit needs to say 'Advanced Customizing Kit' and have the

customized version on the box lid.

Thanks!
