Thank you for the help. Much appreciated :D

Only one question: I've tried to test the sanding on a plastic spoon, but got really quickly through the 2 layers of clear coat. I thin the clear in 1:1 ratio. Roughly how many coats of clear coat should I put on model before sanding?

Many thanks

Wyktor

What's not clear to me is -

1) do I need to prepare the paint for gloss layer? or the I can spray the clear coat and then work on that?

2) I have both micro mesh and tamiya compound paste and don't know if I should use both or just one of them is sufficient

3) Can the glossy finish even be achieved on acrylic clear coats?

1. so long as it's clean (grease free) and fully gassed out (about 1 week) you shouldn't have any issues putting on a clear-coat.

2. use polishing pads or mesh first to get it flat and smooth (from 600 down to 12000), then finish with the compounds then polish to put the gloss back in it.

3. yes

Hi,,

I know this has been probably asked a lot but I still don't understand the full process of making clear polished finish on a car.

I'm close to finishing my build of ferrari 512tr and I don't want to ruin it with bad paint job on the car's body.

so far, I've sanded the plastic, primed with Tamiya's white primer and gave it a few coats with revell's red aqua color (acrylic).

I've wet sanded couple of bad spots on the body and covered it with few more light coats of red.

Now for the actual questions:

What's not clear to me is -

1) do I need to prepare the paint for gloss layer? or the I can spray the clear coat and then work on that?

2) I have both micro mesh and tamiya compound paste and don't know if I should use both or just one of them is sufficient

3) Can the glossy finish even be achieved on acrylic clear coats?

Notes:

-cant use enamels beause of my health

-cant use Future as they dont sell it anywhere near me

thank you for your help
