Does this kit exist?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 21, 2004 9:35 PM
Hey all! I'm not normally a car builder, but I really want to surprise my wife by building her HER car. She said she would love it, but I can't find a kit of it anywhere. She drives a 2000 Mercury Cougar. Body styles are the same from 1999 up to 2003. Can anyone throw me a bone?

Bollod, I took a quick look around the Tamiya site and didn't see any....I had a lot of stuff to do tonight, so I didn't get a chance to look through the other sites. If you get an opportunity check out the Revell site....and I'm not sure if AMT has a site as I've never been to it, but they will probably be the best bet for you.

The only Cougar I've seen is the '92. It's a lowrider kit, but I think it can be built stock.

The '92 is not even close to the same body style. I fear that this kit doesn't exist. But since I'm not a car guy, I have no idea where to look. Been to ebay, Tamiya, and Revell's site, to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I'll bet it's been made as a promo car. Not a model but a good start for a kit bash!Wink [;)]

Try some of the Resin manufacturerers you might have luck there. But highly unlikely. Sorry I can't be any further in assitance. My mother has a 1995 I think. Nice car, but a little big for my taste.

I still haven't found anything yet. This is rapidly becoming a quest. Any one know of any resin makers that would do something like this?

I know for a fact that no one makes this in kit form right now in 1/25th scale. I haven't seen any aftermarket companies offer any. There aren't too many that make modern cars. I haven't seen any diecast companies make it, but try Maisto. If you have any body work or scratchbuilding experience, I think the best option would be to make one. the best way to start is to measure the wheel base and width. Many of the panels of the new Cougar are flat with sharp corners. 040" sheet styrene can be used for the body panels. The roof can be modified from other sources (like the Mustang). You have the car handy for reference. It''s a lot of work, and It all depends on time you're willing to spend on it. Good Luck.
