Wash them with gentle dish soap, paint the rims, spray the inner rim with acrylic varnish or cover with chrome tape to create a barrier.

You can sand or scuff the rubber tyre bit to take the gloss off, or spray mat acrylic/Future etc. Main point to protect the tyre.

Don't use enamels, do use acrylic varnish or weathering powders to taste.

I am building a VW Scirocco that came with rubber tires. If these dry-rot what alternatives are there? Should I use them?
