69 Z/28 in memory of Dad.
Posted by Keyda81 on Saturday, August 26, 2017 9:08 AM

I'm not usually an auto builder, but I recently lost my Dad, and feel the need to build a replica of my 69 Z/28 Camaro that he gave me 10 years ago.

Bit of back story.  My Dad purchased the car on August 21st, 1981 when he was 26 yrs old.  I was only 7 months old at the time.  Now when I was being a pain, crying and not going to sleep my Mom would take me for a ride around the block a few times in the Camaro, and I would fall right asleep.  Hence the reason I grew up loving the car, and it was my dream car.  Long story short my Dad landed up having strokes, and not being able to take care of things like he used to.  The car landed up sitting in his garage for 8 years from 1999-2007.  He called me one day in the Begining of August 2007, and told me I could have the Camaro.  There was quite a bit of work to be done to get her running again, me and my husband spent a few hours a day working on getting her going.  She threw a lot of things at us, seized up water pump, hole in the radiator, etc. but we fought and eventually won.  Dad always said she didn't ask for attention, she demanded it.  He was right.  So on August 21st, 2007 at the age of 26, 26 years after my Dad bought the car I drove her home.  My Dad passed away on August 21st, 2017 at the age of 62, exactly 10 years after he gave me his beloved Camaro.  I still have the car.  She's not anywhere until I pass her on to my daughter.

My question is other than eBay, where could I purchase upgrades, or say different rims/tires/other parts that might more closely resemble what my car has?  She is not all original, and has a 350SBC from a 74 Nova, and a Muncie 4 spd trans.

A few pics.

Forgot to mention I have the 1/12 scale, and 1/25 to do.  Sorry my brain is still like a pin ball machine.

I'm sorry for your loss.  That's a great story and beautiful car!  I love the front clips on those 69's.  Looking forward to progress pics once you get the kits rolling.

Thank you for sharing Keyda, I was born 21AUG68, yea I know millions are my age, but how many get a chance to make connections like that. Don't worry obviuosly my brain is not " firing on all eight cylinders" either. Since I mucked that up lets see if I can help. FSM,( Kamblach), publishes Scale Auto Modeller, FSM but for cars. As you know there are many advertisements for many aftermarket items, I'll bet that mag does the same. Deanshobbystop.com has alot of old OOP kits and may have aftermarket items. I have done business with him always perfect results. Rocketfinhobbys.com (I think I know for sure it's called rocketfin) also has hard to find and OOP kits AND a/m. My condolences to you on the passing of your father, my mom passed 4AUG17, 71yrs to the day after her birth. In closing BEAUTIFUL Camero, thats coming from a Ford guy LOL.

we're modelers it's what we do

Keyda, I can kind of help. I have a nascar sb Chevy, looks very similar to yours. It is built. I have a air cleaner similar to that, it is chrome, so you will need to painot it, and I have a set of sb Chevy headers. 1/25 scale, they are yours for shipping if you want them. I can't afford to cover it right now, just had a heart attack and stent placement. Pm me if interested.

Keyda,

First, I am sorry you lost your father. It sounds like you two were close as I was with my father. Second, she is a beaut!!

You can look on Hobbylinc.com or Scalehobbiest.com for A/M parts. You best bet is to PM Joe - "Mustang1989" for any good leads for A/M parts. You can find him in the "Auto Forum". He is the car guy of the forums and he will go out of his way to provide you with some great information. Good luck, and make sure you do a WiP on your Camaro.

Mopar Madness, thank you!

armornut, wow what a coincidence!  My brain has been a pinball machine for the last week, and shows no signs of returning to normal yet.  Thanks for info!  Trying to get as close as I can without driving myself nuts.

midnighrprowler, thanks so much, pm sent.

Hunter, thank you.  I will be sure to do a WIP.
