 I know what you mean . In 2006 we had our pickup blow a cylinder on the Grapevine while pulling a fifth - wheel ! So --- new truck needed ! G.M.C. 3500 with Allison drive train and crew cab with long bed , that's why I  invoked the " Gimme Forty Acres " earlier in this thread.

 In 2006 that truck went out the door with a new fifth - Wheel carrier for $67.000.00. Talk about  Sticker Shock ! I will say though , 182,000 miles Fifth-Wheeling later we certainly got a Lot of value for the money , never a problem and got almost half back when I sold it !

 Yes the fifth wheel was a toy hauler with my favorite toy in it . A 1974 V.W.Bug ! T.B.

In '91 I bought a Plymouth Grand Voyager and by '92 all the paint was peeling off. They told me that they knew about the "paint delamination" and would gladly give me $75 towards a new paint job. That was really nice of them. That wasn't even a drop in the bucket for an el-cheapo paint job.

I have a 96 I bought used in 2012. V-10 that runs on unleaded. Gets 10 MPG no matter if I'm towing or not. I have pulled a 17,000 lbs trailer like it wasnt there.

She has 179,000 miles on her, and while I'm a CHEVY guy I would consider buying another one. (Just wish Dodge would have gotten the paint job right. It's peeling like crazy)

Mine still has the factory cassette deck in it.... along with a cassette still "stuck" in it. Could never get it out.....does'nt matter..... only cassette I still own is Queen " Sheer Heart Attack."  

 

 

In the early to mid 90's all of the big 3 had paint issues.  Shop I worked for did $135 K in GM's alone one year, and that is in a town of 12,000, and one GM dealer.  The big 3 ate off that table for a few years, until they said "no more".

Had to do with changes in paint, water borne, still solvent borne and the e-coats they were using, and the mix of it all.

Believe it or not...I didn't start buying CDs until I got the new truck(02)...the 96 had a tape deck. The only time I listen to "my" music, is when I'm driving.

We leased a new Jeep Compass for my wife, that has the newer type radio/back up cam/XMRadio...I can't stand that radio....luckily, the face/screen slides down to reveal a CD player!

I am blown away by what people are willing to pay for new pickups.  The only thing that attracts me is the electronics in the new ones, but for $500 and 3 days of work and some scraped knuckles I put a Jensen VX 7023 with Sirius Radio, GPS, back up camera, hands free phone setup with bluetooth and yes, a CD player, but since it also has a USB port on the front and I have all my CD's on my computer a memory stick will probably replace any CD use.  But since it can also play DVD's that part of the radio may get some use.  So my 97 F-150 which has a total of 108,000 miles now feels just like a new pickup.

I've had this in my driveway for almost 15 years. The rust is starting to get bad. But I love this truck. Has 151K on it. It's almost 18 years old. 2000 Ram 1500 Sport. Quad cab and 8 foot bed. 22 feet long bumper to bumper. 10mpg

Fermis - why do you insist on CDs? I used to be like that, too, but then the new radio I have bought had a CD player that was not so good and an USB input. So I've ripped all the CDs that cluttered up my car to a single USB stick and started playing from that. No more changing CD, no more CDs getting scratched, no more skipping and stuff like that. After I noticed that I don't use the CDs any more, I have stored them and I only update my USB stick. That has freed up a lot of space in my car. I believe I have a better mileage now that the car is this much lighter :-)

And yes, we're missing a lot of things in scale. We actually should be grateful for the kits we have. Thanks for reading and have a nice day

You are not alone!

I hated the new 90's style...at first...then fell in love with it. I bought a used 96 Ram, in 99. Traded it in on a new 02. Both were bare bones V-6, no bells or whistles. I bought an 03, 4 door, 4x4, with all the bells and whistle a few years ago. I'd buy a brand new one, but they don't have CD players anymore....that's a deal breaker!!!

I'd love to see some models of these trucks too!
