I've always wondered if there is a requirement as to size of tail lights. While I know antiques must get a pass I have to wonder about many of these pickups I see. I've noticed this trend in these aftermarket tail light covers that pretty much reduce the size by 1/2. Mostly on Dodge Rams it seems.

Seems kind of Darwinian, having your "don't hit me from behind" signal be the "go" signal.
Yes, there are vehicle code requirements for lights on Vehicles to be specific colors for areas and uses. White for headlights and back up lights, red for brake lights, Amber for markers and turn signals. Enforcement of vehicle codes for safety equipment, which is what lighting equipment is, is not harassment, it is for public safety. Just because something is sold in a store or online for a vehicle does not make it legal to install.
"Mr. Goldhammer, do you know why I pulled you over?"
Wouldn't that be a DOT issue?
It always strikes me, when tired and in bumper to bumper at night, how all tail lights are the same color red.
