I noticed a uneven spray pattern on the cab with more metallic in some areas than others and I masked off the top and sprayed it again.  The number of paint coats on the cab is two more than the bed.  I am confident that I can get the bed painted and matched a lot closer to the cab without too much fuss.  

 

That would be the issue. Always use the same number of coats on all surfaces, and paint all at the same time. You should be ok.

Your build looks great, and brings back memories.  When I was growing up my older brother used to drive an old faded blue 65 Fleetside

Did you paint it at different times ?

 Also were the paint sessions necessary to allow the purchase of more paint ? If so I have to tell you , that's another reason I don't like Tamiya paints . Even from the same can you will get different shades .

 The one thing is good though .If you warm their paint in a pot of medium hot water then shake the dickens out of it  , It sprays a fine maneageable mist and the color stays true even if you do it in two seperate sessions a couple days apart .

 The truth is , all the brands react this way . But Tamiya , practically requires the Warm paint method ! I too am doing a pick-up .a 1972 G.M.C. with open doors working steering and suspension too .As well as real wood planks in the bed ! also real chains on the tail-gate . It's going to be Ferrari Red .

Great work! You can almost hear the throaty purr from that engine compartment. (Plus, the Corvey rims give it a touch of class!)

Thanks Jim, but I am starting to hate the mismatched paint.  I'm going to remove the bed and give it another coat of Tamiya TS-92 Metallic Orange.

The close-up shots of the interior and engine compartment look like shots of a 1/1 truck.
