Found Car kits at a discount store
Posted by Rob Gronovius on Sunday, May 20, 2018 11:51 AM

In a local discount closeout store, they had a flyer with a bunch of car kits for $9.99. Among those was a Revell Danica Patrick NASCAR kit that I had wanted when I saw it at the Walmart clearance aisle for $24.97, but didn't want to pay that. I got on their mailing list and occasionally get 15% off coupons, which I used.

There were a few Lindberg cars, but most were Revell sports/muscle cars with the clear cover so you could see the predecorated body. Mustang, Corvette, Camaro jumped to mind.

Last page of their current flyer shows some of the available kits.

There is some speculation that some of the Revell kits are likely to become collector's items and inflate a lot in price.  Being able to pick up some of the newer models at a good price may be a good idea.  Chancy, though.  I know the most recent NASCAR kits are pretty good, and flying off hobby shop shelves quickly.

I am also amazed at the repopped AMT, Lindberg and MPC kits I see on hobby stores now!  With the demise of Revell, people are stepping up to the bar!

It's a decent closeout store. If you get into their free rewards program, they send you a 15% off coupon (one time use, entire purchase). Every once in a while, they have local college attire at about 75% off. It has been a dumping ground for Lindberg models for a while now. All sorts of their re-pops. Inventory is scattered though.

Yes, I have noticed the flood of repops lately.  My LHS has them.  The proprietor told me is really having difficulty now getting Revell kits and several other brands he used to get from Hobbico.  Also, supplies like sheet and strip plastic, the K&S metals, tools, etc.

I see even Hobby Lobby and Michaels are flooded with AMT, Lindberg, and others, repopped by Round 2, Round 3, and some of the other repop companies.
