I picked up this kit about 6 years ago from the flea market for $1. It was already built and painted at the time, so I decided to try to strip and rebuild a model for the first time. It's been a long road getting this model to this point and I'm ready to stick it on the shelf. I just realized, as I was organizing the photos, I didn't put the wipers on... so I have to do that first.
But, this was a build of many firsts. Stripping old enamel, trying to see what I could do with scratch building. fixing broken pieces. Modifying pieces from other kits, using future floor polish, painting with Alclad, building 3-d models of pieces and printing them on my 3-d printer.
I did start this kit not long after I got it, so it's been worked on in phases. I've been hoping to find some of the missing pieces, but i never had any luck, or missed those ebay auctions.
Some of the pieces that I 3-D printed were the headlights, the tailights, the front turn signals, the windscreen, gas cap (which explains why it isn't quite the right shape). Those came out alright. I learned the limitations and just how effective 3-D printing is and how well the transparent filamanet works for headlights.
I think with some tweaking, 3-d printing is great for those hard to find and easy to lose pieces.
Overall, it's a fine 5'. It was definately a learning experience and I'm glad it's done. Maybe one day, I'll find another 1/16 kit, preferably that has never been put together and I can build a definitive version (for myself) of this car.
