True scale of original Monogram Midget Racer kit, custom number decals for same
Posted by Drew Cook on Sunday, July 7, 2019 12:58 PM

#1) Can anyone tell me the true scale of the old, original Monogram Midget Racer kit?

#2) Can anyone recommend a custom decal service for numbers? I'm building the kit to look like a midget my Dad drove in 1949, and need specific-looking white numbers for each side of the tail like on Dad's car. Obviously, I can provide the service with photos of what I need.

Thanks -- Drew Cook, Cincinnati, Ohio

1. Scalemates says 1/20. Other reviews call it "a little larger than 1/24".

2. I'd be happy to help- cost of postage only. Not true pro results but I can put together something. Let me know. Would need size of number, art or a font, which was probably hand painted.

Color of car itself.

I believe it was quite close to 1:20.  Don't have one handy right now, but most midgets were 72 inch wheelbase. So measure wheelbase of kit and compute from that.

How easy homemade decal making is depends on the color of the number and the color of the background.  There are two methods of making a white number.  Do you have a color printer?

Can you post the picture for us to see?

Bill,

I mistakenly sent Don Stauffer a couple photos of the midget and a font I found that is close to the numbers on Dad's car to his email (instead of yours) listed on his FSM profile. The numbers were white (as far as I can tell), and I was going to paint the midget a dark blue. I'll resend them to your email.

Thanks,

-- Drew
