"Gonna buy me aMercury and cruise it up an' down the road" . It's looking good. A chopped Merc is a good looking car. The engine is a small block Chevy, but since it's going in a Merc it looks fine in blue.

I couldnt resist...when I went home on my lunch break, I shot some German Grey-Violet on her.  It is still wet in these photos, and I havent yet applied the flat coat...

Last night, before the family got home, I decided to put the pinstripe decals on the hood and trunk lid.  I did the hood first, and when I turned the car around, I foun d a very faint seam, that must have been hidden by the flat black, and spreying it grey-violet made it pop.  So I had to stop the decaling and take care of that seam...

it just took a light sanding...

so then I decided to test fit the body over the chassis..

Last night I decaled and flat coated the body and hood, and began work on the interior...

there appears, in photos to be some brush strokes in the red, but to the eye, those are definitely not as visible!  NOW I may have to go back and add more red to the dashboard......DANG IT!!!

It's looking very good indeed .

Lovely model, the louvered bonnet is a nice touch, not to mention the cross section in the chassis. Its amazing what a camera shows now that you cant see by eye!

Damn!  This actually sounds like a good tip (I have very good visualization skills...), but alas, it came just a few hours late.  I actually finished the assembly of the car around 10 yesterday morning (eastern US time...).

I will have some preliminary photos up sometime tomorrow, as imgur doesn't like to give out the 'bbcode' through their app, and their mobile website doesn't either, so I will have to do it from my work computer...

I have only to add a small display base and I like to add figures to my builds, as they add depth and scale to the display.  The only "greaser"/50's hot rodder figures I could find in that scale came pre-painted, so I had to strip the paint, and will need to repaint him to my own standards...

Here are some preliminary pics...

I wanted a figure to go along with my build (I like adding figures because of the sense of scale and life it adds to the static model...) but I couldnt find any hot rodder/greaser figure kits, but I did fins a company that makes figures for model railroading called 'American Diorama' that had prepainted figures.  Wile I liked the look they had, and may have been "good enough", I am not one to settle for "good enough", and immediately put him in a bath of easy off oven cleaner to prep for a better repaint.

and here he his after I stripped him, primed him in Tamiya Fine Grey primer, and began the repaint.  I have finished the flesh tones, and am researching good ways to replicate white fabric with paint to give him a white t shirt....

well, here is a mockup with the car and completed figure:

as per my usual  in my builds, I am working on a small base, with just a little groundwork to place it into reality...nothing extravigant, just a .99 cent square of wood from Michaels, a little sculptamold, paing and woodland scenics products...

That came up well! May I ask what flat clear you use?

Raced against one that looked like that back in '60. Even though it's a "Led Sled", all I saw was the rear of it all the way down the strip.

The cigarette pack rolled up in the T-shirt sleeve is a nice touch. It is not uncommon to find a Chevy motor in a Ford hot rod because they are cheap. Just sayin'. Anyway If I recall Ford started using "Corporate Blue" on their V-8 motors in 1946. The Flathead V-8 came into being at Ford in 1932 and they were painted black up until the change to blue. There are three versions of blue for Ford V-8s. Two are light versions of Corporate blue (like the Ford logo), and the third is a dark blue. If I recall correctly the dark blue was used on Shelby Mustang engines and I remember some Shelby Mustang engines being black. Anyone? Corrections are welcomed as this is from old memories. I helped a friend do a customized 50 Merc with a flathead V-8 with tri-power, the long fender skirts, chopped top and "lake pipes", etc. I can't remember the brand "flat" heads he used but the came from New York and were a popular hot rod item as was the offenhouser intake manifold. The interior was "rolled and pleated" leather. Old school hot rodding!!! Leaving the body in flat black primer was not uncommon back then either.

Thank you for that tidbit of information!  the kit itself makes no mention as to what make the engine is, but I knew it wasnt a flat head...so I just went with French blue, because I had it at the ready!
