Thank you guys!  I don't remember when I saw my first Daytona 500, but I have for the most part, stopped watching NASCAR after Dale Earnhardt died.  I'd rather record an IMSA/WEC, Indycar or Formula 1 race instead and watch it later.

Nice clean build.  Have that one buried in the stash that was started years and years ago.  Might have to dig it out and start on it again.

My very first Daytona 500 in 1970, Pete Hamilton won driving the number 40 Petty Enterprises Plymouth Superbird. I had never seen a car like that in my life. They didn't roar when they went by at 200 mph, they whistled. Mr. Mike, your build is excellent.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Thank you and you're welcome Greg!  I have a friend who has a 1:1 car very similar to this and he drives it often.  I think I was, more or less, trying to copy his.  Anyway, this model has pulled at my heartstrings as well, so don't feel bad!  There'll always be a model that affects more than others.

Your model sure does bring back memories. I've all but forgotton about this car. You did a real nice job on the re-do, Mike. Yes

Not that is matters, but I think as a kid I saw an article on how to modify a standard kit into this race car, and I don't think I ever made it past trying to scratch build the funny nose. Anyway, that's what I seem to remember.

Thanks for the memories, incomplete as they may be. Stick out tongue

When you say rebuild,  what was involved?

By "rebuild", I mean that the model was stripped down and repainted, reconfigured and rebuilt using today's techniques for model building.  I built this model about 30 years ago and it sat on the shelf deteriorating.  I pulled it off the shelf and "rebuilt" it to satisfy my current desires versus the built out of box version from way back when.  I took apart the model only to find that the plastic has gotten "brittle" over time.  I cleaned and repainted the Superbird and then reassembled the car using various bits and pieces that I had available.

Fantastic build! And, yes, I'm interested on how you re-built this one too. Also, you mention the decals, do you have links to the vendors?

The Superbird decals I got from a friend on mine and he had purchased them for a now cancelled project.  The tires decals I got from my trips to the NNL East and they were free.   Here are the links to those vendors.

Lovely build! That semi gloss black is very convincing on the vinyl roof. Im guessing since the overspray into grey underneath you have built it as a factory delivered or concourse build?

Nice Mike!  I love all performance cars but have a real soft spot for the mopars.   Very cool.  When you say rebuild,  what was involved?

Thanks,

John
