Back when the world was young...and future NHRA drag racing legend John Force was still driving Oldsmobiles...this Jolly Rancher Olds funny car was the early iteration of what was to become the familiar, iconic green, red and white Castrol color scheme that would mark the Champ's cars for nearly twenty years.
Revell's 1/25 scale kit of Force's (pre-championship) 1989 Olds Cutlass FC was built mostly OOB as a 'quickie' project, with the only additions being some representational engine wiring, seat harnesses and drag chute lines. It's a decent basic kit, not overly detailed, but mine had two major problems. A pretty severe warp/twist in the body shell was carefully fixed with the judicious application of a hair dryer. More problematical were the 'old style' Revell decals -- you know, the ones that are about as flexible as sheet steel, and completely impervious to setting solutions. (Totally inflexible until they settle onto a dead-flat surface...when they wrinkle spontaneously, and uncorrectably.) They did look great on the sheet...but the whites turned out to be semi-translucent in, addition to everything else.
Still, if you squint a bit, it doesn't look too bad.
