Completed Build: 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR "722"

Fitting that this is the car I was working on when Sir Stirling Moss passed away last week. This car made them both famous.

The winner of the 1955 Mille Miglia in a time that still stands as a record today, this is the car that Sir Stirling referred to as "the greatest sports racing car ever built - really an unbelievable machine".

I have to say the Monogram kit does the original some level of justice. The detail is excellent, the fit is generally good (I had to cut back on a few of the engine parts to get the hood to fit, but nothing too dramatic or noticeable).

I made a few modifications to the original kit:

- cut out the trunk and added a spare tire.

- cut out the side panel to make the engine exhausts visible

- cut out the drives side door (there was no passenger door on the real car)

- added seatbelts and switches to the interior

- replcaed the side exhausts with metal rods

Hope you enjoy the end result as much as I enjoyed building it!

And with all the panels open...

Thank you Ted, very kind of you! It was a very fun build, and definitely happy with the result. The upholstery is actually the decal from the kit (painful to apply given that its a VERY old kit!), with some matt clear coat misted over to take the edge off a bit.

Thank you! I really enjoy the photography part to be honest. As much as the build. So i appreciate that feedback greatly.

That's beautiful.

Fantastic job!

Wasn't there a story about him pushing it across the line somewhere? Just going from very faint memory here.
