I keep reading guys calling the race car a sprint car.  Midgets and sprints are not the same!  A midget is about 3/4 the size of a sprint car, has a smaller (yet quite powerful) engine, and they run on smaller tracks.  Midgets run on quarter and half mile tracks, sprints on half and one mile tracks.  Revell made the midget kit and it still makes WOO sprint cars- these kits have evolved (the sprint car goes back decades).  The latest version is the Joey Saldana car.

Very nice little set there. I love the sprint car. Well done on both.

Don, it's a great kit, but it was a bit of a challenge to assemble!! I have fat fingers and my eyes aren't as good as they once were. Patience is the key with something like this.

True.  A midget car in 1:24 is a small model. With the detail in this kit, stuff is pretty small, and the tubing frame pretty fragile.  The build is a lot like the RM sprint car, but smaller, of course.  It is a bit better, as Revell does learn.  Incidently, the new sprint car kits reflect this newe technology and are easier to build.

Looks great.  That Revell midget kit is a gem, isn't it.  A few years ago I was into vintage oval track racing, and there are still a lot of KK cars around, towed by some really mod new tow wagons, so one might well find such a combo at oval racing today.

Ha ha ha, I still like it! I think it's a nice looking little truck and much cooler looking than most of what Chrysler put out. I'll likely never own one, so it's not really an issue!

No You Wouldn't! DanR1967 !

Like Chrysler, Chevy fell into that Morass. Sad too. They looked great, yes, and they were somewhat neat. But, they were underpowered, roughly built and rode worse than My KIA Soul does!

Sadly, fit and finish were on par with a P.T.Cruiser! Yeah, you could leave the top at home, but it took up most of the Bed when off! Oh ! You did a darned nice job on both of them!

Keav - there are two on Ebay right now selling for about $25 (plus $10 shipping). All the rest are quickly heading into collector's prices territory.

Keav,

These are two separate Revell kits. I got the SSR on Mercari for $10!! The Kurtis Midget Racer kits came out a few years back and are not readily available in shops, but to my surprise, I found one in a local Kentucky shop and it was still priced accordingly at $22 so I snatched it up!! Look for Revell Kurtis Midget Racer, there are two different kits and I'm sure they can still be found on Ebay, I just don't know what they're going for these days!

Awesome build Dan!  Is this a kit?  If so - who makes it.  I love the sprint car.  Well done.

Thanks,

John

This little SSR was a fun build. I would do another one, but I'd really prefer to own the real thing!
