Bomb Article-Lousy Lighting ! !
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Monday, October 12, 2020 3:22 PM

I am sorry that this showed up in the Very last issue of our go to Scale Auto Magazine.

The article about Lace painting was intriguing. To bad it used colors and photo angles that did NOT allow the Lacy patterns to show through. I am NOT a Photographer I will admit. There is no way I would,ve used that much light and shadow on that model for showing the results. In the Blue panels ( Too Dark) the angle was so and glare such it defeated the purpose of showing the lacy pattern the article was about. This is something that MUST and I repeat MUST be done BEFORE all those layers of final clear-Coat are piled on!

Soft lighting in a more direct angle would,ve shown off all the hard work better. Nice try though. I have lace painted off and on for years. I always finish with a Semi-Gloss coat for Photos, then Gloss the daylights out of it for protection!

Hello!

This reminds me of a discussion I heard some years ago, when I started working for VW in Poland. We had some prototypes built and they were painted white. It was just before the summer vacations, so those cars were placed outside under protective covers - also brand new. During the two weks of vacation the green pigment from the tarps somehow migrated to the white paint on the car bodies discoloraing them slightly. The boys tried to polish it out but it didn't work. In the end the colleagues in Poland decided they had to build the cars again, as it was less work than painting the already done cars. So they called the folks at VW in Germany and said - you have to wait a month more for your prototypes. Why? Paint discoloration, it's bad and very unfortunate, we have to build them all over again. How bad is it? Very bad. Send us some photos - the Germans said. Sorry, the discolorations don't show on the photos - my folks said. You should have seen the forehead slap that came afterwards...

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Paweł
