Question regarding Tamiya "Big Scale" Ferrari 312T
Posted by JohnnyK on Monday, November 23, 2020 12:37 PM

I am planning to start building this kit. Has anyone built this kit? If so, do you have any suggestions? Are there any Gotchas? How many swear words will I need to use.

This is the Tamiya 1/12 kit I haven't build but always wanted to so I'll be very interested in watching your progress. If it's like their other large scale F1 kits you should have a relatively good time with it without big problems. Enjoy and good luck.

These are my previous 1/12 scale models. The Lotus was pretty easy. On the otherhand, the Tyrrell was a real challange.

The Ferrari is on par with the P34 as far as difficulty. But at least you don't have to deal with getting all four front wheels aligned.

Ha,ha Big Smile I gave up on trying to get the four front wheels aligned. It's not possible. Also, the brake cooling ducts make it impossible to turn the four front wheels in unison.

Built it several years ago, don't recall any real glitches to hang you up. If memory serves the linkages for the steering wheel to the front end is alittle touchy...once complete it is stable and workable. Have fun.

we're modelers it's what we do

I got mine all aligned.  And I could pose them all turned uniformly in one direction or the other too.

But using the steering wheel and expecting them to track properly?  Nope.

Did you use the supplied 'springs' as the cooling ducts.

I've built the number Five Car. The others I have no interest in. Straight-away Build on the Lotus.

The Lotus was a fun build. Pretty straight forward.

I built mine strictly out-of-the-box, so yes.
