1963 Jaguar XK-E Cabriolet
Posted by Mr Mike on Sunday, November 29, 2020 9:06 AM

This is my '63 Jag XK-E painted with Tamiya TS-86 Pure Red with a Tamiya TS-29 Semi Gloss Black interior, wired engine and built out of box.  I removed the side windows since they were molded as part of the interior door panels.

Maybe the best looking car ever. What kit is it? I see Revell will soon have an all new XK-E coupe that I'm looking forward to.

Great job and thanks for sharing

This is easily one of the best looking cars ever made. I actually like the coupe version somewhat better but the soft top is far more common. Such a good looking build. Super nice work.

Very nice.

A guy I worked with back in the '80s had one. It was 100% original with the original (but somewhat cracked) maroon paint. He absolutely refused to repaint it. Picked me up to go to work one time. Fantastic ride.

Thank you guys!  The XK-E was a real pain in the butt to assemble, then I had paint issues, some of which were created by me.  The last I heard was the new Revell Jaguar XK-E Coupe is due out in January, 2021.  I have my eye on that one and I hope it is a better build!

agree the xke is the most beautiful car ever made.  I built a 1/8 scale in yellow over thirty years ago and am still proud to display it.

Nice work.  I had a 65 fixed head coupe for 20 years, it was a color called oxblood, a darker red.  I'm looking forward to the new kit as well, as I think it might be a series II car like mine was.  Different seats and dash, also some visible differences under the hood.

Really nice job!  During one of my dads tours to Vietnam my family moved to Liverpool to live with my grandparents and uncles - very croweded little house.  My grandfather had broken down one of these in his yard and I remember sitting on is lap and rowing through the gears looking at that mile of hood.  Super cool car!

Thanks,

John

There was a large scale kit, maybe Revell or Monogram.

IIRC the thing was about 16 inches long.

As a vintage race enthusiast, i liked the -d a lot.

There was a company that sold replica spitfire aircraft at a reduced scale, powered by Jag inline six engines.

Thank you everyone!  I had high hopes for this Jag and of course I was let down by the kit and some of my skillset.  I hope that the new Jag XK-E Coupe from Revell is a superior improvement over this one.

Nice job Mr. Mike on a very challenging old kit! I built one for my wife a few years ago per her request (she loves red roadsters) 50 years after building the same kit as a kid - a humbling experience but she was happy with the result. We've managed to misplace her model so now she's asking me to build another. I'm holding off until Revell releases the new roadster, spring 2021? The new kit coupe front window looks way too low IMO but should work if Revell used the same CAD data to cut the roadster window frame mold cavity. Sure wish someone would offer a set of aftermarket PE wire wheels for these cars, the old and new molded wire wheels make it look like a toy.

I know of the XK-E Coupe that is being released in January, but I wasn't aware of a cabriolet being released later in the year.  This is news to me.

Thank you Brock!  I had just read about the new Revell Jaguar roadster that is to be released sometime in the late spring or early summer.  Since this was a gift from my wife, I'll hold onto it.  The new roadster kit might find a home with me though...
