Pocher Porsche 911
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 9:01 PM
I'v got a Pocher Porsche 911 that I am getting ready to build. The trouble is that I don't like the look of the red vinyl interior parts. Does any one have any experience or ideas about painting or recoloring these parts?

Thanks

Hogman -
Yaaargh!! I've built several of those large scale Pocher kits - the F-40 and the Testarossa - both were contract builds - I wasn't impressed - very hard to build and make them look sharp. I ended up stripping the pre-painted die cast body panels and repainting them with automotive acrylics. Much improved.
I painted the vinyl seats and interior with Tamiya acrylics - as long as you don't twist or bend the parts after they're painted, you should have no problems.
Good luck!!

What about a dye? I'd be afraid that temprature changes might eventualy crack paint.

I'd recommend Tamiya's acrylic paints, too. Wash the parts thoroughly before applying the paint and you shouldn't have any problems.

Regular enamel paints won't work with vinyl parts. They won't dry or adhere properly.

Hope this helps!

My model room used to be adjoining the garage and got down to 0 degrees in the winter and up to 30 degrees C or so in the summer. In 17 years no problem with paint, decals or tyres so I wouldn't hesitate to use acrlyic paint

Thanks for the pointers! I'll keep you posted on what I do and how it works.
