All new "Classic Kits" column posted at FineScale.com for your model car kit fix...
Posted by Tim Boyd on Saturday, January 9, 2021 5:01 AM

At this link is posted the latest, all new "Classic Kits" column, just as you remember it from Scale Auto magazine, but posted on line instead of presented in print.  If you enjoyed reading the Classic Kits columns, you'll want to check this one out.  The topic this time is the very rare and relatively unknown Revell "Dual Jewel" kit.  Check it out....TIM

That twin engine coupe is pretty cool. I remember building a dragster with an allison engine from that era.

John...that project probably used the V-12 Allison engine kit that was in an AMT Parts Pack that was released in 1964.  It's been reissued a number of times since then in various forms, most recently as a new Parts Pack by Round 2 under AMT branding if I am remembering correctly.   Best...TIM

Hi everyone,

There's a new Scale Auto Classic Kits column by Tim Boyd up on the website. This month: Heller's 1/24 scale Lotus 34 Formula One race car. Click here and enjoy!

Thanks,

TK

I wonder if "Classic Kits" might also be a new forum.  I know a lot of us build them.

Hi Don....

Don't know if you are aware of this or not, but just in case....

Classic Kits was a regular column that appeared in Scale Auto magazine starting with the April 2012 issue and running for 51 episodes through the final issue of that magazine in October, 2020.  You can see many of those columns in the "35 years of Scale Auto" DVD for sale elsehwere on this website.

Good to know you are among those of us who enjoy these classic kits!  And thanks for the comments....TIM

Hi!

I just wanted to point out that there are three Scale Auto Classic Kits installments up now, and they're all grouped under one tag making them easy to find. If you're a fan of vintage kits, then you don't want to miss these. And Tim Boyd does the research to tell you about the kit, it's history, and how much it's going for on today's secondary market. Definitely check them out.

Have a good one!

Great stuff, Tim.

I guess those modified rods came out at a time when I was focusing on different aspects of modeling and missed the car shelves entirely.  I really appreciate your detailed notes about the differences.
