Thanks Don.  You're one hell of a great car modeler so I appreciate the compliment.

For open wheel there isn't much Indycar stuff.  Formula 1 is better represented.  Tamiya has nice 1/12 F1 cars.  I think I'll try the Lotus 49 driven by ace Jimmy Clark.  I'll definitely build other indycars too.

If you can get any old Etzel kits, they are expensive but I onsider them the gold standard.

Very nice.  I sure wish there were more indy car kits out there.  I get most of mine via flea markets or scratch build.  Thank god there is aftermarket catering to us few who build Indy car and other open wheel  oval race cars.

Paul-thanks for the info about the Indycal decals-and the tips for applying the tire logo decals-going to get some ordered after I clear out some other 'past-due' GB's....

The Lola is the 1988 Newman Hass Kmart Armco w/Mario driving.

And I have to agree that the 70's & 80's were great years for motorsports.

Thanks bobbaily

I used Indycals.  I was worried the kit decals wouldn't work as they were yellowed and very brittle.  I recommend Indycals they work well around the curves of the body with a little microsol.  They do have excessive film so cut close to the color.  the first couple I put down had visible film and one folded underneath itself.  Once I cut the film away I got a great result.  I also used their Goodyear Eagle tire decals.  The kit comes with raised letters on the rubber tires.  I sanded these off as these cars didn't have raised letters.  Once sanded off I brushed on gloss varnish (future will probably also work) and the tire decals worked well.

The Andretti car was the Kraco sponsored one?  Michael not Mario?   I always really liked the sport.  I do think the 70's and 80's had the best racing, the biggest names, and the coolest cars.

Good luck with yours.

wpwar11-Nice build on the March-looks great.  Bummer on the start date but you might contact the moderator and see if he will allow you to post, especially if you have progress pics.

You mentioned a decal issue-did you use the kit decals or aftermarket?  Reason I ask is that I have the AMT Andretti Lola for the 80's GB and trying to decide if I want to grab some IndyCal decals.

Again, you did a great job, especially on the engine & headers.

Just finished this indycar build.  AMT kit.  Went together pretty well some problems with decals but thats on me.  The paints used are Tamiya and MRP.  This was supposed to be for the 80's group build but I didn't notice the june 1st start date.  Constructive criticism is always welcomed.  My 2nd car model.
