We here in the UK also try and aviod any sort of 'anti-social media rubbish!

Talking about Amazon, I had two parcels delivered last week, one was ordered via ebay. The other was a small cardboard package with the Amazon Smile on it!

Not ordered, contacted our youngest son who works in a warehouse for them, he tells me there are thousands of small packages being sent out to customers who haven't bought anything from them for 12-18 months, that won't be charged, just to drum up more sales by reminding people Amazon is still here and looking for more business.

He said don't attempt to return it, just unpack it and put it in a kitchen drawer, it was a stainless steel vegetable peeler, possibly worth around £10-£12!

Remember , common sense is not common.

Yup.  That kind of stuff is exactly why I avoid "social media" sites like the plague that they are.  Don't need the drama.

I like the 'hiding my builds" part, as if we are somehow obligated to display any of our work.

As Bugs Bunny so aptly put it, "What a maroon!!"

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

Greg

unexpected emails from unknown senders can be unnerving nonetheless.

I checked my emails this morning and I found one in my Spam folder called, "and that drivel".  It was from "a fan" calling me a bleeding idiot.  I'm hiding my builds and such nonsense, that message went the way of the other...I deleted it!  And, the email was coming from a coward!!!

out of idle curiosity I did a Google search for that email address...and he seems to be all over the place, on a variety of hobby and related sites.

I had done the same, with the same results. That's what led me to my comment suspecting the email was legit.

Mr Mike

I went back and deleted the email address in question.  Eaglecash867 is correct and I should have known better.

While I genuinely respect your diligence, out of idle curiosity I did a Google search for that email address...and he seems to be all over the place, on a variety of hobby and related sites. I wouldn't lose much sleep over it...but I still wouldn't be inclined in the least to reply.

I went back and deleted the email address in question.  Eaglecash867 is correct and I should have known better.  With so many scams running amuck lately, one does have to be careful about what they respond to, open or view.  I find that virus protection does not capture all the viruses, but they do stop a lot of them.  We have to be diligent in stopping what we suspect is a virus ourselves.  I was hoping that if the email was legit, the owner would have spoken up on here, but he hasn't.

The whole internet thing, emails and all will be getting more dicey as artficial intellegence works more of it. Then we have the 5G thing going on etc. Now that said, right now here at CF this moment, Privacy Badger has 19 intrusions blocked ! 18 of those are in red, just one a soft block in yellow. Now granted most are tracking for ads that would if not blocked probably show up in whatever place I went to along the way. If I change forums here I'll likely get a different number blocked..

Mike (and Greg)..... I notice you both have an email address listed in your profile here. That makes it easier for members to contact you, but does provide your address to the whole world, unfortunately including web bots.

An e-mail.

My experience is, if the whole world wants to contact me, I'm not that hard to find.

I just don't have to contact them back. Big Smile

And whatever the intentions are of the sender, legitimate or not, he has now had his e-mail address posted in a public place without his knowledge or consent.  Not good.

Edit: This post was directed at Mr. Mike's last post, and not at Greg's.  Simply suspecting someone of having ill-intentions with an e-mail they sent, IMHO, does not give anybody the right to post that person's e-mail address in a public forum.

I suspect the email you got is legit and you just don't recognize the senders email or real name, Mike, but that's just a hunch.

Please note I deleted a comment of mine leading to Eaglecash's comment below, apologies for any confusion.

This email came from a Stephen C. and the message seemed suspect.  The names in the message didn't ring a bell with me, so I ignored it and left it.  If I had returned a message to this person, I suspect that my info would have been up for grabs by anyone illegal.

Check the sender's email. I recieved a very well done email from amazon about my order being processed. It looked 100% authentic. I hadn't ordered anything, but it showed who it was being sent to. Everything looked 100% identical to a actual email I had recieved a wweek before because I HAD ordered something then. I looked at the sending email address, not the same. Very elaborate attempt to get my info. Clicking on order information sent me to a site my malware protection blocked me from accessing.

A few months back I started getting notification emails from what was obviously an ongoing chat from some forum -- not FSM -- although some of the participants were recognizable from this forum, and occasional references were made to it as well.

It wasn't creepy...the subject was actually kind of interesting...but I had no idea how I suddenly got 'opted in' to it. And no 'personal' contact was attempted, it was just sort of like overhearing a random conversation.

Eventually the email/notifications just stopped, and I didn't pursue it any further.

Yours sounds a little weirder, although electrons sometimes can get crossed. Still, I think -- like you -- I would 'pass' unless it came as a PM.

(The only other thing I could suggest is that our stuff anywhere on the web can sometimes get copied onto sites like Pinterest...apparently by somebody who just liked the pictures...with [in my case, at least] no contact, no permission, and no credit other than [sometimes] just to the original website, but to no author or builder.

(Maybe somebody scoped one of these second-hand pics, and didn't know how else to get in touch. Just a thought.)

Curious email

I got an email from a Stephen C. about Ben's truck build @ Finescale.  Ben's truck build?  I posted on KWT's thread about his build, but not anyone by the name of Ben.  He can't find the font used on that truck doors, but he liked the work I did on it.  What?!!!  The email sounds fishy to me and I didn't respond to it.  Normally, it would have been a private message through Finescale.  He even left his email address which could have been fishy as well.
