71 Hemi Cuda - Finished (no pics though)
Hey all.
This week I finished my 1971 Hemi Cuda in Plum Crazy Purple. This was my first project since returning to the hobby after a 40-year hiatus. As such, I made my fair share of mistakes. I learned a lot from those mistakes, and I gained some valuable insight from the experience. So, while I was disappointed with how the model came out, it certainly wasn't for nothing.
Here's a short list of my takeaways:
- I got much better with the airbrush over the course of the project. By the time I got around to applying the color coat to the body, I was feeling pretty good and the end result was solid.
- It is critically important to work clean. Before I sit down to work, I need to wash my hands, clean my workspace, and get organized.
- Molotow chrome markers are amazing. But, they can react with certain paints and I need to be more careful.
- I need to work on my brush-painting, masking, scribing, and decaling skills. I also need to practice more with using bare metal foil.
- Whoever said, "this is a thinking man's hobby," was absolutely spot on. I thought I was taking my time, but I ended up rushing at times. My new mantra is, "if you think you're going the right speed, you're going too fast."
Well, that's all for now. I promise, I will be posting progress pics of my next project:
