My newest project is the M-B AMG GT. I've had this kit in the stash since 2017 when I went to my first NNL East show in Wayne, NJ. This is planned to be a box stock build. My paint with be Tamiya TS-16 Yellow with a Tamiya TS-65 Pearl Clear.

You might want to do a test with that pearl clear before you shoot the body.
The real car color is an extemely fine mica yellow, it has no flake to it in 1:1, just a stunning glow. Almost like a candy clear too.
I found the pearl yellows I experimented with to look too harsh and glittery on the model (especially in the sun).
While the instructions provide a ratio of yellow and orange to mix a facsimile, I opted for the darker TS-34 Camel Yellow when I did the Scale Auto review of this kit in 2017.

Thanks Mark for the wonderful tips! I have been looking at getting more Tamiya paints since Testors has done away with their Lacquers, Metalizers and some others. I have the regular yellow in my paint drawer and I thought that the Pearl Clear would look good with it. Having not viewed a 1:1 AMG GT (my luck it wouldn't yellow), I wasn't aware that their yellow had extremely fine mica in it. Maybe I'll look at the TS-34 Camel Yellow the next time I go down to the LHS.

The real Solarbeam Yellow cars are pretty uncommon, even in my area where exotics are everywhere. But then that one color was an almost $10,000 option on a new one. The matte gray ones (TS-100) are the most common here.
Here's a reference shot that shows the "glow" pretty well. In other angles it doesn't appear at all as vibrant.
I have been looking at various pictures of the AMG GT in Solarbeam Yellow and many look different. This must be due to the lighting when the pictures were taken. Some are vibrant and some are more subdued. A friend in the Classic Plastic Model Club that we both belong to has offered me his Mercedes-Benz Tri-Coat paint in this color. I want to check it out first before I try to use it on my model.

I have assembled the engine and the rear differential.
I had stripped the wheels of chrome in prep for some Tamiya TS-29 Semi Gloss Black paint. The grille and the exhaust tips got a coating of Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black and taillights got a coating of Tamiya X-27 Clear Red.
The President of my Model Club gave me this Gravity Tri-Coat Solarburst Yellow paint for a good price. Thank you Paul! I didn't have any Gloss Black Lacquer paint, so I used Testors Enamel Gloss Black paint on the wheels. I hope it doesn't let me down! I painted the chassis with Tamiya Matt Black. Now to let this all dry.
I started assembling the chassis with the engine, radiator rear differential and the exhaust system. I painted the suspension plates and the disc brakes.
The chassis is up on 4 wheels!

Thanks John and William! I think the body will be painted this weekend. I have to get some new air filters tomorrow for the paintbooth and give the airbrush another cleaning before I use it.
Well, I must admit that I am a little frightened of this paint. Gravity Colors Solarbeam Yellow. Three stages of paint! Base coat, mid coat and clear. I haven't painted this Mercedes yet, but I will soon.
I have taken the first steps to painting my Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. Tamiya Grey Fine Surface Primer.
Since I had my paintbooth up and running this afternoon, I went ahead and painted the Mercedes in the first of three colors. The first is the basecoat of Solarbeam Yellow. This will be followed by the mid-coat of metallic/pearl with a clearcoat being last.
Looks like the paint laid down nice!
This is Gravity Colors (Spain) paint. It did lay down nicely!
I added the mid coat of paint today. Since my air brush has been still for a month, I decided to give it a quick cleaning before I sprayed the mid coat. Next will be the clearcoat.

Now that's a bright color right there! Love the way you did those Wheels! The only color around here seems to be RED! This is a nice bright recovery from red out!
I finally clearcoated the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT today. This is three coats and I will polished the clear in a couple of days when it has dried.
Looks great in yellow. I did the Tamiya race version in matt grey. It's a beautiful hotrod of a car.

I polished the Mercedes this afternoon. I used NuFinish Scratch Doctor followed by Novus 2 Fine Scratch Remover. I'll use Novus 1 when the model is assembled. This color is gorgeous! I'll have to zip out into the heat and view this in the sunshine!
