1997 Dodge Caravan LE
Posted by Mr Mike on Monday, August 1, 2022 11:13 AM

My new project is Lindberg's Dodge Caravan.  I plan on building this stock without any of the Police bits.  This also includes the return of McNally, Boston PI in "A Mother's Anguish."  All people in this story are not related to anyone living or deceased.

The Build

My kit is of the Lindberg Dodge Caravan kit no. 72184 and it will be painted with MCW Seafoam Turquoise Metallic and built stock.

The Story

Teresa Hallis had been dating Jack Tirana for almost three weeksShe was happy at first for almost a week, but that ended rather quickly.  Jack started to “stop by” for extended visits.  He would make demands of Teresa and her kids, John Jr. and Molly.  He wanted to move in with her after two weeks of sporadic dating.

Teresa finally stood up to Jack and told him to stop bothering her and her family and never to contact them again.  That lasted less than a week and he was back to bothering her again.  Jack swore that he loved her and he wanted to be with her, but Teresa didn’t want any part of him and she was starting to dislike him very much.  This morning, she drove her kids to school in her 1997 Dodge Caravan and told the Principal that she was having problems with someone and for her children to remain in school and not to release them to anybody except her and she would have to find a solution to her problem.  Teresa then drives into Charlestown to see the one person that she can totally trust to stop the harassment from Jack Tirana…McNally, Boston PI.

McNally will return...

The Story

McNally sees Teresa park in front of his house and he opens the door and welcomes her in.  She tells him about Jack Tirana and how he is harassing her.  She wants Jack to go away and leave her and her kids alone and to stop stalking them.  McNally tells Teresa that he will do what he can to get Jack to stop harassing and stalking her and her kids.  He asks her about Jack and where he lives and works.

Jack Tirana lives in Roxbury and works at Tonnawerks, Inc. in that town and McNally will drive over to Tonnawerks and stake out the building and Jack and to see where he goes during the day.

The Build

Before turning in, I washed the body, chassis and interior bucket of the Caravan last night.  Primer and paint are next.

McNally will return...

The Story

Tonnawerks is a small assembly company that hires many handicapped workers.  Its receiving/shipping department has a few regular workers to help with loading and unloading of trucks and SUVs.  Jack Tirana works in the receivingshipping department and at lunch time he goes over to a bar called Moony's for some boilermakers.  McNally watches from his car as Jack leaves the shop and goes over to the bar.  McNally follows him and talks to him inside the bar.

"Jack Tirana?"

"Yeah?  Whattaya want?"

"You know a Teresa Hallis?  Stay away from her and her children."

"And, who are you to tell me what to do?"

McNally leans forward a little so Jack can see his gun in his shoulder holster and says, "I'm the last guy you want to erk off!  Stay away from them!  Understand?"

"Yeah.  Yeah.  Stay away from them," he says and he takes another drink.

The Build

I painted the Caravan this afternoon and considering that I usually have issues spraying enamel paint, this came out pretty good!

McNally will return...

The Story

Teresa's son John Jr. was scheduled for an afterschool playdate with one of his friends who lives one bus stop before his.  He never made it to the playdate or on the bus.  Teresa calls McNally in a panic and he tells her to call the Police and the school.  As McNally drives around, he jams on the brakes passing an alley with something lying in the dirt.  He races into the alley and that something was John Jr. lying on the ground and badly beaten up.

He carefully picks John Jr. up and places him in the back seat of his Dodge Charger Super Bee and races to the Hospital and then he calls Teresa and tells her he found her son.

The Build

I have assembled the interior.  For a snap kit, there are some pieces that require glue.  Not that it is an issue for me!

The Story

McNally stops at Jack's apartment, but he wasn't there.  A search of the local bars and taverns finds Jack at a place called Rolly's Bar and Jack staggers out of the bar trying to light a damp cigarette.

McNally is sitting on the fender of his Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee and he says, "Come over here and talk to me, Jack!"

Jack replies, "Leave me alone!"

"Come on Jack, show me the hands that would strike a little kid?"

Jack stops, throws his damp cigarette away and he tries to find another one on him and he doesn't have one.  Jack stuffs his hands deep into his jacket pockets and he staggers along, probably heading for home.

"Come on Jack, show me those hands!"

Jack continues to stagger and stumble home while McNally gets into his Super Bee and drives away.

The Build

I gave the Caravan another coat of paint making sure that the rocker panels got a good covering.

McNally will return...

Looking good. This looks surprisingly decent for a Lindberg kit. Didn't know there was a kit of this.

Sorry to hear about your Voyager, Eugene.  Thanks Omni!  There is a surprising amount of detail for a curbside kit in this one.

The Story

As McNally drove away, he receive a phone call from Teresa.  John Jr. has to go back into surgery to relieve the pressure around his brain.  McNally says he will be there shortly.  This wasn't expected, but John Jr. needs the surgery and Massachusetts General Hospital is an excellent hospital to have this done by qualified doctors.

The Build

Some detailing of the chassis was done today.  I still have to add the paint for the spare rim.  I added the wheels and tires.

The Story

With her daughter, Molly safely at school and John Jr. in the hospital, Teresa goes home to take a shower and to change her clothes.  She pulls into the driveway with her Caravan and gets out of the van and walks to the side door with her keys out.  She stops at the side door and unlocks it and opens the door and she feels a gun at her back and a hand over her mouth telling her to be quiet and she is pushed into the house.  She is bound by duct tape and a piece is placed over her mouth to keep her quiet and it was all done by Jack Tirana.  Jack tells her that if she squirms around and make any noise, he will kill her.

McNally drives back to Jack's apartment and he is not there and his car is gone.  He calls Teresa and he calls go to voicemail.  McNally calls Adam and he requests a wellfair check on Teresa at her home and Adam sends a squad car out to her address.  Once the cops get to Teresa's house Jack barricades the side door with an overturned table pushed up against the door and he starts shooting his revolver at the cops yelling that if they come near the house, he will shoot Teresa.  The cops call Adam and he calls McNally who drives over to Teresa's house.

The Build

I snapped on the body over the interior, windows and the chassis. This is looking really good! More parts ready for paint!

Looking pretty good Mike!  I had 93 Dodge Grand Caravan.  Perfect car with a 2 year old girl and twin new born boys.

In 2008 they came out with the R/T Caravan which I thought was a great idea to add a little sportyness for dad Stick out tongue

Your build is bringing  back memories

Thanks,

John

The Story

McNally arrives on the scene only to discover the cops hiding behind their SUV.  Jack Tirana has taken to shooting at the cops and threatening to take Teresa's life if they don't leave.  The cops have called for SWAT and a hostage negotiator to come a take over from them.  McNally tries to talk to Jack and he doesn't respond.  The hostage negotiator arrives and demands that McNally move his car and leave and he will take over.

McNally moves his car and drives around the block and sneaks over to the far side of the house and he removes a screen and crawls in through the open window and quietly sneaks into the kitchen.  When he is about 8 feet away from Jack, he turns around and McNally shoots him before he could shoot McNally with his drawn gun.  McNally cuts the duct tape from Teresa's wrists and ankles after he had checked to see if Jack was dead and pick up his revolver.  He moves the table that was blocking the side door and he hands over Jack's gun to the cops and takes Teresa over to a waiting ambulance to be checked over.  The hostage negotiator yells at McNally that he went against his rules and McNally should be arrested for his actions.

The Build

I have finished building the Dodge Caravan LE.  I would like to thank all those who have viewed and commented on my WIP.

Hey!

Mike, that is one fine job!, Reminds me of my 2003 Kia Sedona. That and my close friend's Dodge Grand Garavan were pretty close to the same in handling, and for a van Fun.

The Story

Lt. Det. Adam Troy arrives on the scene and he talks to the hostage negotiator who wants McNally arrested.  Adam won't do it since McNally had rescued Teresa from Jack Tirana and he had saved everyone from remaining on the scene longer than necessary.  Jack was ready to die and take Teresa with him and the loss of Jack's life was acceptable to Adam and others at the scene, except for the hostage negotiator.

The Build

Very nicely done!  All those supercar models out there are sweet, but THIS is (or was, a few years ago) the norm for most American streets.

Thank you LonCray!  You are correct that this was the standard for transportation on American streets!  We will rarely to never see a supercar on the street!  There is a red Ferrari that I see one a year on the street and I never see after that.

Hi!

Here in New Braunfels, I was surprised at how many of the "Supercars" that I see. Why? You can't run them at their full potential! I settled for a JEEP, Grand Cherokee. Fast enough for me, but Moves a lot of stuff too! I like what you have been doing lately Mike keep it up!

Looks great. That passenger side mirror must have nicked a mailbox or something. This one takes me back to my last job, we had a few of these for hauling people and parts. Thanks for posting this.

Mr. Mike,

That is one nice looking Caravan!  Love that color.  I'm on my third real Caravan and this is my favorite body style of this popular vehicle.
