Tamiya Nismo R34 GT-R Z-Tune

Hey guys,

Yesterday I finally decided on my next kit to build. I have a long business trip coming up and didn't want to be stuck in the middle of something really involved, so I picked this one as I've heard it's a fairly straight forward build and there is no engine to assemble.

I ordered the upgraded Photo Etched parts (Tamiya 24106) for kicks. Never done that before and wanted to try it.

I'll try and post more detail as I progress, rather than my last Porsche 959 build where it was mostly complete when I started posting.

Just received the photo-etched parts from Amazon. Looks cool, I'm looking forward to adding them to the model.

Made a bit of progress yesterday / today.

The front bumper has a provision to mount the licence plate but I'm choosing to delete the plate, so I filled in the mount. The kit came with two styles of front bumpers so you can easily see the before / after.

Also got a pile of parts airbrushed semi-gloss black and primed the body parts.

Today I airbrushed the body Flat Aluminum (don't have Gloss at the house). I'll rattle can clear gloss over top of this once it's dry.

Also painted a bunch of other parts but nothing too exciting.

Well so much for posting progress pictures. I managed to finish this kit in 2 weeks, I thought I'd be at it for months like my previous 2 kits.

Overall it's a really good quality kit, went together flawlessly and I'm glad I went with the photoetch kit, some nice touches.

I had two spots of clear peel off with the masking tape (while doing windows) but they were so small it's not worth doing anything about it.

I also cracked the body while shaking it off to dry, I was holding it by the hood and shook it, and heard the crack. It repaired very easily though but was a bit of a scare.

The semi-gloss black sprayed a bit weird for the interior, maybe not enough thinner. Not really noticeable now that the body is on.

I used adhesive backed metal foil for the exhaust heat shields on the body:

Nice job!  You sure made short work of that.  Those brake roters look fantastic - I'm going to have to try PE rotors in the future.  Undercarriage detail is really nice.  Well done.

Thanks,

John

Thanks guys! It was my first experience with PE parts and I'll definitely consider them on future models.
