Project "El Gato" (pics)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 23, 2004 6:32 PM
I posted this over at Scale Auto & I'm hoping for some constructive criticism from a new group of modelers. Also if you like you can check the link in my signature to see some of my other stuff.
Here it is! Project "El Gato" is finished. It's based on the AMT '69 Cougar Eliminator kit. (which by the way the box is misleading. wrong wheels, and engine!) http://www.xpphotoalbum.com/showgallery.php?cat=9335&ppuser=3876
The bodywork was a snap on this one. Of course there really aren't that many mods tho. First the obvious, I cut off the Cougar roof, & replaced it eith a Revell '70 'Stang unit. Then the bumpers were smoothed, & molded in. I used .040 sheet styrene to bulk up the hood contour, build the grille divider, & extend the fenders. On the rear I used sheet again to mold the taillight opening. Once the mods were dome I sanded off all the trim, & marker lights. All this was sprayed with Duplicolor Ford Cayman Green, topped with Duplicolor Mirage (gold to magenta), & finished off with 4 coats of clear. I polished it to a dep shine with a Detailmaster polishing kit, & turtle wax polishing compound.
The underhood area is from the same 'Stang kit that donated its roof. I used the kit engine, but added a dual quad intake for visual impact. The kit chassis is virtually intact except for some lowering. The wheels are my very 1st set of aftermarkets, Hoppin Hydros Slim 20" Triton's.
The interior consists of the kit tub, & dash with 90's T/A seats, & F&F supra steering wheel. The seats were a suprisingly good match for the Cougar. They have the same roll & pleat pattern.
Thanks for lookin & please feel free to let me know whatcha think (good bad OR ugly)

First welcome to the forum over here. Looks like a pretty sweet build. Pics are a bit fuzzy though. Don't seem like you left to much of the kit intact. Pretty nice build.

First of all Crzyhorse, I don't know much about cougars or stangs for that matter, as they're not really my forte. With that said, I hope that you will accept my compliment to a very beautiful build. I really like the lines, and the way you did the hood is awesome. I like how you kept the scoop subtle, but still enough to know it's a powerhorse!!!!! Really nice....how long did it take you?

Look's nice to me c.horse.... you done a good job at detailing under the hood, so no complaints here.

Thanks for visiting and please consider hanging around?

Take care,

El Gato took about 3 weeks to build. I wish I could take credit for the design , but it's based on a concept car from 1970.
