AMT Model Cars '60-62
Posted by model make on Saturday, May 27, 2023 3:36 PM

Hi

Picked up 23 Car Craft magazines

They are from '59-62

All kinds of tidbits in them about AMT

Here is one

They would put out three versions of kits

Styline, 3in1 and Trophy Series

One kind came with chromed engine on a display stand

Think they were telling you there was no engine under the hood.:)

Have a nice Saturday

Yup - those Styline kits didn't have opening hoods.  What frustration for this ten year old!  And they had wild customizing ("styling") pieces - front and rear clips and they needed putty to smooth them in!  Yuck.  I tried with the Corvair kit, but failed miserably.  Years later, putty became a regular part of my modeling stuff.

Hi Rick

Be nice if they would put out the '60,63 & 64 Corvair kits.

Will post back cover of this Car craft tomorrow morning.

Full page ad by AMT.

Have a good evening

My older brother would build those kits...then give me the 'leftovers,' the spare unused parts (from the 3-in-1 kits, I guess). I'd then use those bits, combined with cheap Hawk and Lindberg kits from the Five-and-Dime (remember those??) -- and assorted plastic pill boxes, plastic shapes and bits I could scrounge from the house and garage -- to build my own weird sci-fi creations I generically labled 'rocket ships.' Think Gerry Anderson meets Rube Goldberg. They were mostly laughable messes, but lots of fun! Big Smile

Hi

Where we were it was Woolworth's 5 & 10 cent store.

Do not remember buying the kits myself. They were always given to me.

Here is the picture as promised.

Today's AMT needs to put out this era Chrysler Dodge Plymouths.

Have a nice day
