Morris Mini In Progress

This is looking really nice an a bit of fun too. Are you goin to wire and plumb the engine too?

Looking good there kik, what color is that? What color green did ya use on the engine? To blend in the stars, a few nice coats of clear should help that.

Nicholma.....this is going top be a straight build....Out of the box, but I did actually pick up a second kit to do a major conversion, and I will fully plumb that kit for sure!! I just wanted to concentrate on some different painting techniques on this one.....

Lee, the color on the body is MM enamel "Blue Angel Blue", and the stars are "Arctic Blue Metallic" the idea being that as you move around the car, the stars "pop" out at you. The effect is awesome, and it worked great, but the flash from the camera washes it out. I love the Blue Angel Blue, as it is such a Deep, and rich blue. The engine is Testors "Flat Green". (it's the recommended color) I thought about changing the color before I painted it, but I have never seen an engine that color, and I thought why not??

Dan, I love the Tamiya auto kits. and most of their kits in general. But the background story is that last year when I first started modeling, I was trying to get her into it as well, so we picked her up a Revell-monogram beetle, and Mini to work on. She had fun painting them (You don't want to know what colors!!! Trust me!!) but it never went beyond that. So a couple of months ago, I decided that I would pick up where she left off, and try to finish her kits for her.....holy Crap!!!! I'll never buy a Revell Monogram kit again!!! The plastic was thicker than a 2 X 4!!! They were toys. I decided to chuck the kits, and bought this one. And it has a lot of pieces for being such a small car!!!

The Mini looks great! The paint job is definitely unique. As for creating a smooth finish between the stars and base coat I would spray a couple coats of clear and then wet sand with 3200 or 4000 grit sand paper until the edge is gone.

I applaud you for trying to get your girlfriend into model building. I attempted this, a couple of times and each time it was a disaster. She seemed to think that I was spending more time with the models than I gave her.

This week is finals week at college and have been incredibly stressed. I just found out that I took first place at a local model contest with the Mini. This really made my week much more enjoyable, more than what it was going to be.

Again, the Mini looks really good! Keep us posted on its progress.
