Airfix MK1 Ford Escort
Posted by PatW on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 8:04 AM

Whilst in the throes of packing for our soon to be house move, I found in an old ice cream tub an Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort in a plastic bag, In basic grey plastic. So to break up the packing schedule I decided over a couple of days to build it. I had printed out the instructions of a previous build some years ago.

In the days of my race/airfield marshalling at the Silverstone Racing Circuit some 5 miles away, about 40 years ago there was a saloon car class designated 'Super Saloons'. This was using a base saloon shell on a spaceframe chassis with whatever V8 engine/gearbox you could fit. I found alongside this kit a modified Escort MK1 shell duly modified with plasticard by me some 30+ years ago! I am now looking for a 1/32 kit of an F! car for the wheels and suspension to fit a scratch chassis!

I therefore look forward to my move, building another garden cabin and continuing model making, having started when I was 8 years old and 76 next month!

Pat, are the fenders on the red car body the same as on the real car?

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

That is one wide body kit on there!  Sounds like a fun class and project Pat.  Do we have to wait for your move to see the finish product?  What monster tires are  you putting under those fenders?

Thanks,

John

There were various Escorts with wide or wider arches. Yes all packed away now unfortunately, although our Solicitor say it could be as short as two weeks! But as we are talking about six moves, or we call a chain that has to move on the same day, well who knows?

Hi Pat!

I like the little grey car more than the Red one, I have to tell ya! Now, I did have a chance and bought a Cortina for the Missus. She loved the little car even if the steering and pedals were on the wrong side! LOL.LOL.

Thanks Tanker-Builder. Yes all of the controls are on the wrong side!
