Vintage model kits that had you glue the side of the car on ? Jo-Han ?

I remember a Triumph TR3 that I had to glue the sides on, but, I don't think it was a Jo-Han. Might have been an Airfix...it's been so long ago!

I have a Lindberg 1/32 scale Chevy Fastback model that has glue on sides (if I am recalling correctly).  But from looking at Scalemates.com it appears that it might have originally been a Pyro kit.

Jo-han kits were pretty nice.  They had a line of class-cars, lilke the Monogram Series, with similar quality.

 The most of them I remember were Revell, All their early ones did .Then Pyro(later as Life Like) and some kits from Europe. And then Lindberg picked up the molds or leased them from Life Like and made the same cars .I believe, they were all, except a few from Revell all 1/32. Oh, And I should mention some VERY POOR attempts by a company named Palmer, Later"Premier" Multi Piece bodies that resembled somewhat the cars they said they were!

I got a hold of some model kit bodies at a tag sale. Some of these Vintage model kits that had you glue the side of the car on ? Jo-Han ? I don't remember !

 

Palmer made some car kits with the seperate sides.  As I recall, they were not that accurate and always appeared a bit 'off'.  I think they were smaller than 1/25 and larger than 1/32 scale.  There are a few of those kits on ebay now.

Guys, guys, guys.  Revell, and Aurora were the companies with the multi-piece bodies; top, sides, front and back.  Their lines of sports cars, especially Revells, can still be found on E-bay.  Revell had the Porsche 356, 1959 Corvette, Mercedes 190SL, and Austin-Healey 3000.  The kits were 1/25th scale and were released in both street and competition versions.  Aurora had a line of 1/32nd cars, Cunningham, Austin-Healey, Mercedes 300SL, Ferrari, Triumph TR-3, and maybe Jaguar XK-120.  At least some of these kits also came in two versions: street and custom.

Jo-Han, Monogram, SMP, and AMT, amongst others, had essentially one-piece bodies

     I believe at one time as someone has said maybe Airfix had some too!

Minicrafts new K-51 radio truck fits this description.  Interesting given the state of today's molding capabilities
