Mini is sitting funny
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 2, 2004 12:36 AM
I know you guys have had to run into this before.....so I thought I would ask the gurus. When I glued on the wheels, the thing doesn't sit flat on all 4 wheels, it rocks like......well obviously it seems like one tire is lower than the others??!! How do you guys fix this?? I checked to make sure that the tires were put on true, and they seem to be. Thanks for your help!!!

Dry fit everything before glueing.

On 43rd kits where the axle location is not very exact I'll allow one wheel float before glueing to ensure its all square. For a plastic kit this isn't always possible so I dry fit or apply just a little glue and test it all, make any changes necessary then glue it al properly.

Heath -
Is that the Tamiya Morris Cooper that you're talking about? I'm a little stunned - normally Tamiya kits are fairly fool-proof and mis-alignments like these are hard to achieve. I'm not making any comments about your skills or abilities, so take no offence and read nothing into those statements.
I'd carefully measure all the corners of the bodywork and determine which corner is higher than the rest, then either cut or break off the wheel and re-glue it with the other three on the ground. Weight the car so that the three corners sit level, and glue the final tire.
Hate it when that happens.............
